i have been playing this game for nearly a decade, accumulated around 1.7k total hours on like 3 accounts and i can safely say i have not in my lifetime seen a more saddening example of a game being ruined by corporate greed

currently the game is in the most awful state it's ever been. 80% of the active players are bots either spamming peoples dms constantly either autofarming all day, the economy is in shambles due to the aforementioned bots, all new content these past few years has just been grinding for days on end for a small chance at a limited item that you can just buy directly with iaps (wonder week and ubiweek) or literal gambling with items you can also purchase directly with iaps if you dont want to/have the currency to buy them from players. getting started is nearly impossible and quite frankly pointless if you dont already have friends playing it because the community is so irredeemably toxic even league pales in comparison (i say this as a league player)


the steam release is also incredibly bad, you can't play with old accounts on it and instead you're forced to play with a new account linked directly to your ubisoft login. absolutely braindead choice unless they allow account migration later on to replace the growid system, it's a shame because otherwise it wouldve been nice to not have to go to the site and download another installer with every single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patch
this is now irrelevant as of July 8th 2024, you can login with growid on the steam client. still cant recommend the game to new players though

tldr if you want to get into it then just dont, growtopia is nothing more than an overglorified gambling simulator marketed towards a younger audience including children trying to mask itself as the cutesy little pixel mmo it once was

im glad to see graal games being uploaded to steam, i used to spend unholy amounts of time on them as a kid especially classic and ol west, hope to see them on here soon.

the jiggle physics on garfield's fat dumpy are out of this world

first off, i've been playing this game for around 2 years now, and seeing how much it's grown over this time is genuinely awesome, and with it being on steam now i can only imagine how much better it'll get as the playerbase gets larger.

the game is really fun for both casual and competitive players, and the level editor gives you a ton of creative freedom, especially with the new electric update, although it's a bit confusing, maybe a guide on it would help. sometimes there's fun events like races and contests in the official discord, and hopefully if the community grows enough they'll be a bit more regular. the currently only dev working on this game interacts with the community a lot and is very transparent as well which is really nice.

overall it's at least worth giving a shot considering it's free, and i'm really looking forward to whatever updates the future will bring to the game :)

this is like the third time i had to redo the "story" (almost all story aspects were removed, now it's just a bunch of pve stages i guess) because every time the game gets overhauled like every year or so you have to do everything all over again. it's a shame, the game was pretty fun on launch when it actually had a real story and actual character interaction, now it really has no soul.

if any company other than nexon were behind the game maplestory would've been a masterpiece. tragic.
