This is definitely for fans of the Jet Set Radio games that inspired it - if you're coming in totally new you might not vibe with the style that they're going for - and it polishes a lot of the rough edges that those games had. Controls are responsive and satisfying and the camera rarely misbehaves, while skating and tagging is brisk enough to keep the momentum going without feeling like an afterthought. Meanwhile the aesthetic and design is great, and the soundtrack has a decent amount of variety.

What I'm about to say next are more like words of caution than criticisms, but the stages get pretty complex later on and you can catch yourself panning the camera around looking for the intended route somewhere. Also, some of the score attack challenges against rivals are quite demanding - but if you manage to keep a combo going and get those multipliers you can easily overcome them.

(Note: I played this with a DualShock 4 controller, but it was fine)

Early Access Review
If you enjoy rhythm action games and want to support a charming, inventive and satisfying entry in the genre, you owe it to yourself to play Rhythm Doctor. The game's simple one-button format is easy to grasp, but it manages to find many ways to shake up the formula as further levels unlock. Additionally, the presentation is superb and there's a lot of great writing and characters in the main story mode. This is definitely worth your time and money.

Shudder is a great take on the twin-stick formula, with innovative mechanics that are explained well, awesome presentation and plenty of longevity from the available unlocks. Essentially you're tasked with destroying enemies with your "shudder" but you need to build up your power every time you use it, and different enemies require different amounts of power to be built up before you let loose. However, there are also some great additional gameplay mechanics that require you to prioritise the best use of your shudder ability...

A great game for people who like their twin-stick arcade action with a tactical twist!
