Do I like the new characters? - Mixed bag at the moment
Do I like the new art style? - Fewer more normal "cute" girls is a little disappointing
Is the puzzle portion good? - Hell yes.
The new puzzle mechanics are a really good extension of Huniepop 1.
If you enjoyed the puzzle aspect of Huniepop 1, you probably will find Huniepop 2 worth the time and money.

Must-have is the Dragon Quest XI Orchestra Overhaul Mod

Beautiful game, wish it had the Japanese language option
Hopefully they'll add Japanese voice acting, language, Orchestral soundtrack, and more after the Switch version comes out, but probably not likely.
