TL;DR : Worth every penny. If you're looking for a reason to get this game, just do it.

I've never been too keen on playing horror games myself. I like to watch them for sure, but I usually pass on having to be the one feeling the dread. Feeling hopeless. Feeling desperate. And I do feel like this when playing Lethal Company. And I also feel comfort. Respite. I laugh. I do silly things.

The back and forth between these two emotions is what made me fall in love with the game. One of the reasons it works is that lore-wise, the game takes itself very seriously and constantly reinforces how dangerous and heartless this world is. And you heed these warnings, because after a few runs you know they are telling the truth and that safety is an illusion.
The game knows you are going to get cocky and die for it.

And then the gameplay is basically telling you "hey here's a bee costume. press 1 to dance. turn off the lights on the ship, inhale stimulants, and run around smackin' your friends with a shovel. tell them you wont stop until they are either dead or not reluctant to call you Barry Benson anymore".

You should absolutely try to play this game with friends. Online communities are often too focused on winning to just indulge in silliness and tomfoolery. Let the voices win. Lest the horrors do it.
