The enemies have way too much health (am i shooting nuts and grain or bullets and buckshot?), which makes the combat boring and tedious. Bosses require the player to dodge to last any significant amount of time, which makes several characters simply unviable (why even add them?). The controls feel unresponsive (I frequently desperately struggled to fire off a skill in the midst of combat without it registering my inputs) and are more of an issue then enemy actions. Flying enemies get to shoot straight at you while you only get to shoot left or right, they are also frequently faster than you and their positioning makes returning fire an ordeal, completely breaking any remnants of flow the combat had to begin with. Speaking of movement: the default speed and jump height are agonizingly low and make travesing the levels unfun and the aiming being non-existent coupled with the pathetic damage dealt on hit make gunplay unfun as well. In terms of balance, some characters are completely overpowered, while others struggle with doing anything. Overall the experience can be likened to trying to skin a deer using only the blades of a plastic fan. The graphics are pretty, animations are so dynamic and snappy that they almost seem out of place in the painful grind of the game, and the sound design (music and sfx both) is actually really pleasant. 3/10, I really wish i could get a refund...
