I have really enjoyed playing this game. While there is not enough randomness IMO for the run as a whole (planets are always the same, first 3 major behemoths and the Herald fights are always the same), I do thoroughly enjoy trying to get different combinations of units to work and carry me through harder difficulties. It saves constantly which is nice that I can stop whenever and pick it back up (not so nice if you like to save scum on these types of games). Plenty of unlockables to work towards if that's your itch to scratch, and fluff text is pretty amusing at times. I've got 40+ hours in this and it will be in my play rotation for some time to come.

I played the demo to see if this game would be for me. And while it is quite pretty and polished, this game is not really what the steam tags indicate. It is a "card battler" only in the sense that each of the characters are represented by cards - the game is more akin to a very basic NES RPG, where each movable spot in a town / field is a single card, the character's abilities are each a single card (just a menu choice), etc. It acts as though characters and development will be central, but they are all fluff around a quite boring traditional RPG storyline (again, I played the demo so maybe it really wows when you get to the "real" story). Most of the time playing this game feels like you're just pushing through menus and having to click the mouse every time a person says a single line. For what this game is, it seems massively overproduced and slow paced. Assuming the demo is an indication of how the actual game will play through, I would not recommend buying this outright to anyone. Play the demo and perhaps you'll have a different experience with this game that feels like it could more appropriately be called Menu Quest.

Overall, this is a good addition to a healthy collection of rogue-like games on Steam. It feels very dialed in with the relationships of the 4 characters. It takes some of the fun battle mechanics of Slay the Spire and provides you with a much more fluid map to search and journey across (semi-puzzle mechanics). The game needs some visual polish and controller support seems to sometimes cause odd visual glitches. The controller support could also use more clarification in options (key bindings do not seem to show their related controller buttons, though buttons show up during gameplay) as well as longer time windows before triggering Brush. All that being said, this is a game I can see myself continuing to enjoy for a long time and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a game that is very Slay the Spire-esque with a map exploring mechanic.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this game, even with only 2 of the 4 acts completed. It is an engaging squad based rogue-like that has challenging and rewarding battles and builds you can create. As you master the mechanics and find some of the "cheap" combos, you can crank up the difficulty and play it at an appropriately tough level. I'm patiently awaiting the next patch!

An excellent turn based tactical game where you manage a squad of men to bring themselves and their company greatness. It can be very challenging at first, even if you are experienced in this genre, and as many have suggested there's no shame in starting on beginner!

Remember to diversify your team's backgrounds (this affects the random events you can receive) as well as your front line's weapons. The game is easier if you particular units prepared to deal with particular threats. The game is punishing if you do not consider this. Spears, swords, axes, and maces all have different archetypes they are most effective in countering in a not-so-rock-paper-scissors kind of way.

Though many of your men will die as you progress, that actually opens up windows to get stronger units (both better backgrounds and more adequately built for your team). The variety of world forms is awesome, though the mission variety and enemy groups does become somewhat repetitive as you get towards the mid and end game.

Overall I have really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to people who enjoy challenging strategic games.

This game takes some getting into. I've tried several times over the years and none of those times did it click. Everything is very difficult, everyone's out to kill you, blah blah blah. But this time I started and it did click. I finally got the combat system, I trusted the advice that you really, REALLY, should choose like 1 weapon skill, 1 defense skill, and 1 main / 1 secondary civic skill. The game then really does play like an adventure. You can't do everything. Choices matter. Sometimes you screw up and people end up dead. But once it gets it's hooks in you, even with 2015 graphics, it's still quite enjoyable.

Thoroughly enjoyable game. Lots of customization between various characters and playthroughs, adjustable difficulty, and plenty of RNG - it's just what I look for in a roguelike game. The artwork is great and the events are short enough that I actually have interest in reading what they say is going on, unlike most roguelikes other than maybe FTL (the first time). Strong theme and great play experience, I would definitely recommend if you're into this kind of game.

A great one-shot deck building roguelight. The normal mode gets progressively harder as you become more skilled at beating it, and the daily climb feature allows you an interesting set of rules to go up against other people. Updates are done often, which is awesome, my only current desire is to be able to see the score breakdown of other players on the daily climb so I can now how on earth they got their high scores so I can improve.

I am not super into deckbuilding games, but this is a very approachable one where successful games take about an hour.

This game is a great strategy rogue-like with the right amount of difficulty. With careful planning and an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each group of Mechs, it feels like every battle is somehow beatable. It is challenging, but fair. Don't be afraid to sacrifice a few civilian lives to ensure you get the perfect island bonuses (getting every map icon for the island). I loved FTL and dumped a ton of time into it, and I can already tell this game will be the same way.

I have thoroughly enjoyed dumping 80+ hours into a stealthy campaign-driven strategy game with rogue like elements.
