Core Game:

The perfect balance between Mario 64 platform puzzling, Zelda (mostly Wind Waker) stylished characters and Dark Souls-ish atmosphere/lore. That being said, if you played all three of them you have pretty much enough background on everything that's going to happen in-game, and yet Blue Fire is capable of surprising you on how good it can still be.

Be aware that the combat itself is not the major attraction of this game - alas it being so simple and easy - but instead its jump puzzles, being them inside the Void (a separate, alternate realm) or outside anywhere at Penumbra (the "real" world). In case you came here expecting this title to have a complex combat system and difficult enemies, maybe epic boss fights, you most certainly will be disappointed.
As I stated above, the combat system is simple and slashing only consists in a combo of 3 moves. That's about it. As you would expect from a game that inspires itself on TLOZ, you do have a spin attack but it's awful, almost useless to deal damage, serving more as an utility to reach very high places or extending air time. You will face some boss fights but personaly only 3 of them are interesting: Sirion (the fire boss who is just somewhat interesting), the Queen of Darkness (as a last boss you can only expect it would be fun) and the final DLC encounter (the absolute best boss fight).

Blue Fire easily made its way through my top 10 favorite games as it reminds me of the aspects I love the most in all three games it is inspired into, that's why I won't ever give a thumbs down. Still, there's a few cons I can't let pass without a word like the camera, clunky af sometimes and making the DLC less fun as a terrible consequence; the lack of landscape depth, which I complained since the very first time I touched this on Switch (fully beat it for the 2nd time now); and character physics not so on-point, leading to horrible air fight experiences and difficulty on making through a few puzzles.
None of those cons are gamebreaking and you just get used to it, but it may be a pain at first.



Void of Sorrows DLC:

I don't feel like saying a word against this... After all, it's a free DLC. Yes, short content, it only adds a big room with some kinda good puzzles, easter eggs, few secrets and an epic final boss fight but well, at least for me it went by as an extension to the major plot we witness in the base game and the answer for some questions left behind after you beat the Queen in a 100% save. "Who tf is that Von guy who comes out of nowhere and why he isn't beating enemies or doing anything of use if he's so strong?", for example. I'm glad they designed innovative void levels and delivered us such a god level anime betrayal lore, it was really worth it.



Conclusions are:

Overall, the base game is 9/10 for me. DLC is 7/10. Would safely recommend this to anyone who's a diehard Mario or Zelda fan.
