I have been waiting for Tunic for a long time! The demo itself immediately hooked me on the idea and the full release delivered on my expectations and more.

If you are someone who can get frustrated easily from getting lost, gets lost easily, or are impatient, this game probably isn't for you! The game revolves around the idea of you not knowing exactly what you are supposed to do, exploring, and rewarding curiosity. You can barely read or understand the manual that helps you out, but nothing is so hard I never could figure it out or something someone with an alternative perspective couldn't help with.

If you don't like the combat, there ARE accessibility options for it to make it easier. Otherwise, the game will punish you for not learning or knowing when or how you should attack or if you desire to use your limited resources. This game isn't just Zelda either. It's not as simple or easy or straightforward. Will you need a guide or thing a puzzle is obtuse? Maybe, but I was able to get through 95% of it with minimal wondering what I should do or what something meant. Of that 95%, maybe like 3 parts of the game were ones were all I needed was an alternative perspective for overthinking or missing something or retrace my steps or simple patience to figure it out. But it never felt tedious, unfair, and I never felt like I couldn't figure it out, and I never spent like a full day thinking what to do. Personally, I think a lot of the game is clever, if not a little cheeky at times, but because of that I felt rewarded figuring things out. Towards the end especially I was surprised to what lengths I had to go to in order to finish the game in a state I wanted to.

All upgrades and weapons are optional for the most part and will requiring finding but finding useful or required items was never a hard thing to do. It goes back to that, adventure puzzle part of the game and patience to find and curiosity of where while understanding or feeling where it could be. Additionally, you will need money for upgrades and need to defeat enemies for it. It can be a little annoying going through places of interest or areas repeated with the same areas but it let's you get the money you need for materials and upgrades if the enemies have respawned. If you're upgrading, then it means a lot of enemies will become easier to clear too. More annoying enemies will become a bit less so with new items or abilities but that's also assuming you just don't know or care to learn their patterns that alone will let you know when and how you should attack, dodge, punish, etc. And if that isn't to your taste, there are things in accessibility so you can swing to your hearts content with much less concern. Or if you know what you're doing, you can easily outrun enemies and not bother or simply enter a loading zone so they aren't still chasing you when possible.

The game itself can be pretty short if you're just looking to beat it and take no interest in the world itself. If you just want to beat it, you'll end the game with obvious missing pieces or just things you flat out missed. I think, if you play the game instead of wanting to play with the experience, you'll be missing out. It's not just combat, it's an adventure and puzzle itself. Personally, beating the game so soon felt wrong. I had too many unanswered questions and missing items or unsolved puzzles from around the world. I knew there was more, and I wanted to find it. In the end, I did find most of everything and reached a place I was more satisfied ending on.

It's worth it's price, always felt rewarding with genuine excitement at finding a few secrets I adored and puzzles I enjoyed working with because I thought they were clever or a little tricky. I'll never be able to feel suspicious at a puzzle in game I can't understand yet but know it is some thing I will eventually do! The game is an incredibly enjoyable experience I wish I could do again without knowing anything again! I highly suggest giving the game a shot.
