It's an 8-year-old game with zero video options, terrible UI, and an unstable frame rate despite its simplistic graphics style.

But more about the video options, it launches the game in a small window and, when maximized (by pressing Alt+Enter which I had to find out from a forum post), it's still the resolution of the small window only bigger (blurry), and is neither 16:9 nor 4:3 so I have no idea what's going on with the aspect ratio. It seems like a mobile or flash game that was uploaded to Steam so they could get people to more willingly pay for it. The massive (and very few) UI buttons screams mobile.

Also in the beginning, if you catch all of the small fish that are within casting distance, they don't respawn, so you have to quit and re-launch the game in order for there to be more fish that you can actually catch.

I'm convinced the astoundingly high average Steam review is due to nostalgia. I like some weird, niche games but I'm flabbergasted that people actually progress very far in this game before putting it down for good and attempting to forget it.
I highly recommend that if you're thinking about getting this game, watch someone play it from the very start and see if you want to go through that. The late game stuff looks neat, but I can't bring myself to play this game for more than half an hour. It just isn't fun, and I'm refunding it. Sorry.

For a 45-minute game that looks like it was made using scans of charcoal stick figures drawn on paper, it's remarkably thought-provoking and well-written. In fact, the last part of that sentence can pretty much stand on its own. Makes you genuinely wonder whether or not you're digging in real life...

I'm giving this game a positive review BUT here's the thing: it's only fun for a little while unless you play with friends, and even then it might only be fun for a little bit longer. Part of the problem is that the XP gain during your Insane Mode playthrough is far too low, or the XP needed to level up to higher levels is far too much. To max level your character, you have to beat the game several times on Insane Mode which is nothing short of a tedious chore. Maxing your character level in games like Borderlands 2 isn't a chore because there's a vast number of places you can go, things you can do, and ways to do it. In Castle Crashers, however, the entire game is scripted through and through and it's apparently common to just use one particular section of one particular stage to grind XP and level up. You just stay in one spot and slash enemies for hours until you're satisfied with your character level. That's not fun. Plus, unlocking new characters just means beating the exact same scripted game again and again and again, and some characters unlock after beating Insane Mode, which means grinding with different characters again and again and again. There are some other issues with combat, like if you're too close to an enemy you'll throw them instead of attacking normally, even without holding a directional (which is supposed to be the trigger to execute a throw attack), which is super annoying because it brings your combat flow to a screeching halt. But really Insane Mode and grinding to max level kills the game once you've beaten it on normal mode. It can still be super hard without requiring a grind, but the grind is what they went for. I have 21 hours in the game but I honestly don't have any desire to play it ever again unless a friend wants to play together. Oh well. Bottom line, I can just barely recommend this game, but try to get it on sale.

Entertaining characters, strange friendships, unique gameplay mechanics, hilarious results, casually challenging, frustrating for perfectionists, acceptable graphics. I got all solo achievements in just over 4 hours, and by the time I was done I didn't really have much interest in playing it more at the moment. However, maybe on a boring day or certainly if a friend wants to play, it will be a welcome option and I'll enjoy reliving it. If that doesn't quite sound like an experience worth $10, wait for it to go on sale and it will definitely be worth it.

This review is based off of a 1hr 15min experience on Sniper Elite difficulty. This game is an absolutely exhausting exercise in frustration. The player movement has an inertia mechanic which makes it feel like you're running on ice at all times, which is probably the most glaring and prohibitive issue in the game and I have no idea why it was implemented to begin with. It's impossible to change direction in an amount of time that comes anywhere close to acceptable, making quick changes in your movement impossible. If you are faced with an unexpected enemy (especially on the hardest difficulty), you might as well just take your hands off the controls becauase you are going to die. The aiming reticle (not in sniper mode) only appears on screen after you shoot, then stays there for subsequent shots. The default keybinds are letter-based instead of location-based, so your left hand needs to move all over the keyboard to do things. The AI only come out of hiding once they notice you, making it futile to treat this like an actual sniper game because you never have the drop on a single enemy. They're always hidden behind obstacles or the corners of buildings and never allow you the line of sight for a surprise shot. It almost feels like a third-person take on a classic shooter arcade game where you move on your own and just wait to see where all of the enemies pop out from. If you're like me and just wanted this game to complete the Sniper Elite experience, please don't bother. It contributes nothing to the series but a jumping-off point, and I am genuinely surprised that they convinced anyone to let them make a second game after this one. But you can shoot people with a sniper rifle in this game, so 2/10.

I don't have a whole lot of time into this game so far, but I really love it. If you're into realistic race sims and motorcycles, this game feels awesome. I highly recommend playing with a controller, I barely put a minute in on keyboard and immediately swapped. Just keep that in mind.

What an intense, adrenaline-fueled ride this game is. I've spent the first three levels perfecting my runs to gain S ranks and I have to say, it has been a blast so far. I'm excited to keep pounding through the rest of the levels. If you like the sounds of the music from the video trailers, and you think you'll enjoy a difficult rhythm game, then this breakneck psycheledic roller coaster of a game is right up your alley.

Great simulator, lots of fun just seeing what would happen in ridiculous scenarios, plus a fantastic learning tool that can open the eyes of any individual who thought they knew the true scale of the world outside of our tiny planet.

The Witness is a very interesting, challenging puzzle game that allows you the freedom to explore as you will and leave difficult puzzles for later. I've only dipped my left foot into this island so far but it's hard to put down and it feels awesome to figure out the theme or mechanic of each new puzzle type. Well done!
