Feels like I'm playing a free-to-play early access game. Except it wasn't free, and this isn't early access.

I rarely need to, but in this instance I wish I'd gotten a refund.
Game has a cool presentation and a lot of mechanics, but they all either lack depth, play poorly, or both.

It's genuinely awesome to see Amplitude bring in modders from the community to address some of the major issues with the game after all this time. Want to leave a positive review regarding this because I'd love to see this happen again to address things they didn't have time to fix with re-awakening. Nakalim feel much more interesting to play now, and interacting with the Academy is also significantly better as you're not just trying to compete for the Spear of Isyander role.

To summarise it in a few words, it's basically Ready or Not meets Hotline Miami. I almost exclusively played Police Stories in co-op with a friend, and for the very low price point during Steam sales, we both got more than our money's worth. The game is elevated via co-op play, and I fear I would not have maintained interest to finish it if I had only played it solo. Grab a copy for both you and a friend during one of the sales and you should get about 6-7 hours of entertainment, more if you intend to go back and play previous missions for a better grade.

Buy it during a sale. It's a decent metroidvania, but the game overstays its welcome.

Solid netcode, lots of interesting characters I want to learn, and enjoyable stages and music. I'm content.

As of writing the game's dead, so don't buy it if you're planning to play matchmaking. It died because the developer took far too long addressing balance issues, causing the player base to move onto greener pastures. If you can pick it up on a deep discount, it's good fun to play with your friends, especially as a side fighting game because it's so easy for everyone to get competent at the game quickly. Great netcode, great visuals, solid music, interesting characters to play, and all this hard work has gone to waste by managing the game and player base poorly post-launch.

Game was really badly optimised on launch, with terrible performance and game crashes making it not worth the effort. Today, it's a lot more stable, and better optimised but with room for improvement. The class skill reworks are a very welcome change too. You will still have a much more polished experience in Vermintide 2, but for those who prefer to be more shooty-shooty, Darktide is in a pretty decent state now.

Really short and sweet shooter that doesn't take itself seriously in any way. The game's loading screens alone made me smile. I personally wouldn't pay full price for the game if you're not someone who wants to replay levels to compete with other people's fastest times, as it's just too short as a one-time play-through. Catch it on a sale though, and it's a lighthearted way to kill an hour or two. Fun game to stream to people on Twitch for a night too, just because there's always something whacky happening.

I don't play these types of games normally, but really enjoyed the experience. Didn't overstay its welcome, the writing was funny, and my only complaint was that the ending didn't tie everything up as perfectly as I'd like.
