There's two ways to circumvent this. Either temporarily delete version.dll/dinput8.dll (depending on which one you use) and make sure you do not have anything equipped that requires it in your save prior. Horse, guns, clothing. Nothing that requires an .asi loader (like Red Dead Offline content)
Or, alternatively, if you're just replaying for the millionth time like me, play until the game soft locks, then use Rampage Trainer to suicide twice or thrice. The game will give you an option to skip that particular checkpoint. In "The New South" that would skip the fishing sequence and prompt you to row back to camp.
