The TSE to the ss4 TFE

1. The new weapons are great, but i was under the impression that we will get new weapons not replacements

The crossbow is good, feels good, looks good, the orange color scheme and the behavior actually resembles the eraser from bogus detour, but not at the cost of both the sniper rifle AND the devastator, is this because it would be too similar? because really i don't think most players would care

one suggestion would be to delegate the enemy piercing to the devastator, have sniper do massive bonus damage on weak points (small explosive in the bullets could be a justification) and have the crossbow pierce less in a line but with explosive bolts that stick out of enemies (or ground) can be manually detonated, or maybe arcing lightning a bit (since they're mentioned to be electrified) or proximity sensor explosive bolts that stick out and explode when another enemy is near, or... you get the idea

same with the burner, both it and the laser should be in, even just having different ammo pools would be enough to differentiate them with how different they feel, or a small tweak that has the burner beam doing less damage but add a small burn over time to enemies for a few seconds, really the minigun and the laser are also pretty similar so why not add the burner as well?

and i really don't like that the autoshotgun is delegated to a secret, i thought that autoshotgun is going to become a staple weapon for the series like how devastator and c4 became after ss3 or the sniper after tse, it's also really helpful as it represents and option between 'oh a group of kleers/gnaars, lets whip out the shotgun' and '♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ THAT'S A HORDE BRING OUT THE MINIGUN'

the AK is fine as the rifle is really the one weapon that feels appropriate for it to have variants, and the AK feels incredible, it's honestly the best AK i ever used in games, and i played a lot, if the weapon skin functionality stays for future SS games then the option for the AK should always be offered, it's that good!

really don't be shy to give 3 weapons per slot in your games, even if some are similar, one could argue that having this many weapons makes them to clunky to switch but i'd say that even with half the current arsenal you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ without hotkeys, get some future SS to have 3 weapons per all 9 slots the game deserves it

the gadgets here mostly have the same issue ss4 does but to a lesser degree due to the game being more stingy with OP battle enders, and the new gadgets are fun otherwise


2. The new enemies are also great

The hopper lizard thing may be annoying but it's a good type of annoying, the octanian variants are good and really demonstrate why the croteam should not be afraid to add more variants to their enemies than they currently have (just give just a new beheaded variant already, the yellow shirt bomber made many believe there will be more and people wanted that), and the turret is a good miniboss and makes me wish for ss2 style turret enemies to return

the rollerball grenade especially (and the secret that spawns a ton of them, but they don't have their netricsa message why?!) just causes me to want the rollerballs to return, or be ported from last hope

the octanian raider is still not an enemy sadly, i feel ss2 style aircraft should also make a return in the future

the only thing the game lacks (especially highlighted by the vehicle and open sections) are very large enemies like the highlanders and ss2 mechanical spiders, the tank section especially makes me wish for giant spiders, for some reason that i can't pinpoint the moment ss4 trailer dropped i had the image of a running boss battle with an enormous giant spider boss while in a tank

the boss isn't that good however, i feel that ss games are the best with massive, free roaming bosses with minimal scripting, and the massive maps of ss4 really would do well with bosses like that


3. The new vehicles are great as well, both the tank and the new mech, the tank especially is something i wanted with ss4, though i feel that the tank is too slow

the other vehicles are also good, the snowmobile does it's job, as does that slow truck in refinery side mission (for what it's supposed to do it does the job well, it brings you back faster)

though this really highlights an issue that was also present in ss4, there are either vehicles that you can't really fight on and mostly serve to transport you around or vehicles so OP they require their own section and outrageous enemy numbers, there's no vehicle that can fight and is an upgrade over going on foot but still fits with normal gameplay like the ss2 vehicles

i think the best bet would be to look at serious sam next encounter humvee, this is a vehicle that fits thematically with ss4 and one that isn't OP but still better than being on foot, this is a vehicle category that the games would really benefit from and enable more consistent and better usage of big open areas the game is capable of

the hover scooter is also a step in the right direction, reminds me of ss2 vehicles


4. The new maps are a massive step in the right direction, especially the bunker side quest in map 4 feels like the interior areas in TSE

the first 3 maps are examples of everything being done right, from the enemy placement to the secrets, from the map layout to the pacing

the last section of map 4 and the entire map 5 less so, if anything i feel the biggest problem with those is how incredibly tight they are while looking like they should be more open, especially the soviet apartment blocks don't feel that good when used for corridors this tight

i guess most of my critique there is that the engine is capable of such open areas but the last map is actually pretty claustrophobic, and yes i know it's still comparable to the biggest, most open ss1 maps, i think part of this is that modern assets feel differently to the blocky old brushes and the fact that the game uses the NPC's as an excuse to throw more enemies at you while not giving you adequate room, really the encounters before the brigde when going around that park would warrant space similar to the kleer valley in metropolis in older ss games

i could also say that some open areas in map 3 aren't as open as ss4 made me expect them to be, but to be honest without more ss2 style vehicles, powerfull weapons to thin the massive hordes instead of the OP gadgets that instantly delete them and giant enemies there isn't that much that can use them


honestly if there is one thing to take out from siberian mayhem, is that devs should never be afraid of experimenting and adding more variety to anything, even if something is similar to what was before, ss4 fell into a box when it comes to level design (but admittedly it's not as deep a box like the ss3 was in), siberian mayhem however mostly crawled out of it, now if the next ss crawls out from the box on enemy and weapon variety everything will be well, especially when the enemy variety box is already partially crawled out of

also if some people say puzzles/tombs/interiors bad then they should not be listened to (but removing the darkness/widening the flashlight and not slowing down the player was a good move), and honestly the same goes with skills and gadgets, i fully expect ss5 to have skills and gadgets and i HOPE that they will be even crazier than here as long as they don't fall into a box of 'similar skills broken down into more skills' and 'either powerups or serious bomb equivalents' while being afraid to get out and experiment

Half a year of waiting and the "major" update is a single planet type you will only see inside a specific scenario, an ascended mod adding weather effects that you will also see only inside that specific scenario, a hydrogen tank block variant and a "cosmetic" DLC with 2 functional blocks that have no counterpart in vanilla and a mission scenario in it alongside cosmetic stuff, which makes it more than just "only cosmetic" DLC we were promised

and outside of that, the game lacks content and is far from complete, the players were asking for more survival content for years now

wish i could get a refund for this game

Abandonware, and now for half the price that i originally paid for too, because of course the devs had to rub it in

Planetary anihhilation was how much, 27$ before uber took it down? PA Titans had a timed 66% discount for those that had PA before Titans release, and considering PA Classic is built into Titans this gets us a dlc/expansion with price tag everywhere from 10 to 14$

Discount is timed due to STEAM and their weird discount system, imagine a 35% sale going on with everyone that had PA before and their 66% discount added in, what does this give? 101% discount, contrary to popular opinion this would make it unable to buy game at all, which doesnt matter because discount is timed for 2 months and HYPE is everywhere, it would take special kind of people to miss it

As for why it was released with its own store page, Classic PA taken down, and new players can only buy titans? its a rather radical move to minimalise community split as much as possible, its also here to delete all previous steam reviews and refresh opinion of the game (thats why its not addon nor upgrade) reason for that? ridiculous ammount of negative reviews that bash game for not having things like save and load, never ever updated to accomodate new patches, things like that spread misinformation like forest fire in australia after dry season and give game a bad name thats completely undeserved (im not even going to mention reviews that bash game for being on sphere, what the hell is this, flat earth society? how is that even an argument?!)

Its also evident how much titans add to the game, 5 titans, 3 air units, 3 naval units, 3 new vechicles, 3 bots, 3 oribitals and 1 building (theres also that drone that carriers spit out, which is controllable and hence new unit) do the math, how much does that give?! 21 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ units, all of those masterfully crafted and have their own roles and counters, to all those that its the same pa it was before, WRONG, game plays completely different and all classic strategies got thrown to the trash!

Considering its actualy ~12$ dlc it ads way more than "big" industries tend to give, and dont give me starcraft as example, pa doesnt have factions, which is actualy a good thing, and uber never had money to get those in game anyway

People also tend to say that classic pa got abandoned and you need to buy titans to get bug fixes, i dont know if those people are inherent trolls or simply stupid but prehaps you missed a 1 GB WORTH OF UPDATE to classic PA, which contains new ui, remade alerts, massive ammount of polish and bug fixes, dozens of voice alerts and some units were remade in their behaviour, which means the only thing titans got that classic doesnt have is 21 units and multi level terrain, and im not sure of the latter

Similarly all future content patches are going to be distributed both to titans and classic, which may or may not mean that even when they add new units to the game classic will also get them, only sure exceptions are new titan units that can get to the game via patches (game lacks naval titan, supreme commander tempest anyone?)

Thing that angered people most obviously was giving titans for free to kickstarter backers, while i understand the sentiment, early access buyers were no less important, especialy that were was nearly 500k (contrast 45k number of backers) of them or even more, dont let those fools that say "its your fault that you got 90$ alpha, nobody told you to do so and you could wait" get to your head, you were just as, if not more, important in shaping that game

But finances trump sentiments, because universe is a ♥♥♥♥♥ harsh and uncaring place, and so giving everyone that got alpha for 90$ expansion for free would completely break uber finances, loss would be unnaceptable, not to mention giving it for free for those that got beta (extending it to gamma buyers would be complete and irreversible suicide)

Most reasonable would be giving expansion for free to cosmic edition backers (250$) but even that is debatable, personaly i would not give expansion for free for anyone but 1000$+ backers and raise discount to 70% (75% also could be a suicide, tot small ammount of money)

Thank you or not, spaceships, hovercraft, titans and multi level gameplay were never promised at all, not even in kickstarter

You may ask why uber ever needs money, why they bothered in releasing this expansion in the first place? surely they are shameless cashgrabs and im a fanboy you might say, well gues what, DEVS NEED TO EAT TOO, multiple times they admited that money is running short, what would be better, releasing titans or abandoning a PA year later or risk bankruptcy? if the latter is your answer then save yourself trouble and dont even bother replying, because thats just disgusting

And for those that have issues like crashes or things, go to uberforums and post your issue in support section, you would be suprised how helpfull they are

Final note to that weird cult of haters and other chaos heretics around that game, creating private accounts to buy PA, write a review, spend half a hour in game to create illusion you did something, and then refund it? thats lower than low, Shame on you
