When I started this I didn't know what to expect, I'm more familiar with the 2D entries, turn based combat and the most recent Final Fantasy I've played, in release order, is XII. After finishing XVI, I'm very glad I got to play this.

In my first hours, I was taken aback by the sheer spectacle the game delivers. Incredible cutscenes and visuals, beautiful music and a very flashy combat system. The combat in this entry is the most novel aspect, being in few words a spectacle action game in the vein of Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, long gone the turns of old. You have to string attacks to make combos while chaining your skills together and manage cooldowns. There's also a stagger bar, similar to Sekiro, and when the enemy stagger bar repletes, they get stunned. It is a fun system, you get many abilities to arrange your skillset to your liking. Unfortunately, I found the game a little too easy, the enemies don't behave much different one from another and they were either too squishy or too spongy for my taste. Also, there's little else to spice the combat: no status effects, no buffs, no debuffs, no elemental weaknesses, that sort of stuff. Don't get me wrong, the combat is fun, specially when you also consider the visual part of combat, all you skills look and sound great and you can get complex and creative, to some degree, with your moves, but I think it could be better if the game was more challenging and/or dynamic with its enemies.

My favorite part of the game was the music by far, I don't know why but in many parts I got very emotional and even teared up. I think this just speaks of the quality of the game to create special moments, where the music and the scenery comes together and creates something of beauty. That or I guess I'm too sensitive hahaha. The quality of the cutscenes is astounding. Beware though, there's like 20 hours of them, no joke. But they're really well made, and Final Fantasy in one way or another I think is full of cutscenes, so it didn't bother me.

So yeah, I really liked this entry, I didn't like much the direction the narrative took after the beginning, I don't think the characters are as strong or iconic as others from another games, the sidecontent is really meh (I'd remove like at least 80% of sidequests lol) and sometimes the pacing was bad, but I really loved the music, the visuals, the different tone it has compared to other entries (this one is like what if FF and Game of Thrones had a child?) and the way that, despite being the sixteenth main entry and once again the series is taking risks and changing stuff, it still feels like a Final Fantasy, through and through.

I'd recommend to FF fans and JRPG enjoyers, to players looking for narrative focused games, to games who likes flashy, spectacular scenes/gameplay in their games and for people looking to experience a journey.
I wouldn't recommend to impacient people, people with too little time, players looking for a very gameplay focused experience, players that hate too many cutscenes or looking for something with lots of stuff to do.

It's fun for an hour or two, but the controls aren't tight and collisions ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. The rest of the game is pretty average at best.

I'd only recommend if you're a big Warhammer fan, even more if Orkz are your thing and if you are looking for something akin to Rogue Squadron.

Dakka dakka dakka.

Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide is a coop game where you have to kill ceaseless waves of ratmen, the Skaven, to survive, in a fashion very similar to Left 4 Dead. I spent my last two weeks playing this game with a group of friends and indeed, many, many rats I killed. It was very fun, I liked it a great deal. It packs lots of hours of good coop fun.

Vermintide is set on the Warhammer Fantasy setting, and you have to pick between a selection of five characters (though your party is limited to four) to defend against the Skaven, a race of rats (evil, malicious ratmen!) and complete different objective-based maps. If you're succesful you get a dice roll and a chance to get better gear, which you keep permanently. You also get EXP for your efforts, no matter if you win or your whole team perishes.

It is very similar to Left 4 Dead, there's waves of enemies, special enemies, a likeable cast of characters, items to increase survivality scattered across maps and it features a first person perspective. Vermintide mixes things up by making each character has its own set of weapons and changing the objective from "going from saferoom to saferoom" to making the player complete a series of objectives, which have some variation from map to map, with no checkpoints in between. All great fun! The characters and weapons feel truly different from each other, role and gameplay-wise respectively. Some weapons are faster, some are ranged, some have bigger swings, stuff like that. The selection is not that big, but it's varied enough for me. There's also "trinkets" that you can equip which provide different percentual buffs, that allow to tailor a little bit more your equipment to the needs of your team. In lower difficulties this doesn't matter much, but on the higher, and specially the last difficulty, you'll need comunication and precise coordination. It's really a great experience when the whole team is entirely focused on the action and in rat slaying. But it sucks when someone is ill-equipped, because is very noticeable.

This brings me to what I dislike about the game, and what I really don't like is the decision of making getting weapons and trinkets so luck dependant. You only get one piece of gear (any kind of weapon or trinket) each time you complete a level. There's also daily quests, but again you have to be lucky to have a quest with a piece of equipment you'd want. As you only get one piece of equipment, and weapons are character-based, many victories can pass without you getting a better for your character. The alternative would be to gather good items for all characters, and that will take a LOT of time (unless you search the internet for the best way to farm, which I think is the reason I didn't reached 100+ hours of playtime, but gets dull). Other stuff I didn't liked so much was that the movement felt a little clunky, or maybe in some maps there's too much mini-clutter? I'm not sure, but I feel like I got stuck way too many times in the direst of hours. Could be a skill issue, though. Maybe I just suck. But what I think truly sucks is to play this solo. I don't believe this game would be as nearly enjoyable as it is when playing with a full group of pals playing with the other characters as it is when playing alone. The IA is not very good, although you can address that with mods, it is not a complete solution.

Not much else to say, I really enjoyed my time with this game and had a lot of fun fighting the hordes of rats with my fellow exterminators, and I'm really looking forward to playing the sequel. I would recommend this game to any group of friends looking for a Left 4 Dead-like experience, with some elements of progression over time peppered in. But be prepared to submit yourselves to the will of the dice and to face the endless Vermintide.

A very fun, entertaining game and very easy to get sucked into. Great music, visuals, presentation, world, it offers the most refined version of the trademarked Souls series combat. Even though the game is great and I think is easily this year's GOTY, it does not bring anything new to the general landscape of actual games; it does not innovate, it is just more of the same, executed brilliantly. From the bottom of my heart, I hope FromSoft doesn't continue with this trend.

About the narrative and story, I didn't particularly enjoy it, I thought it was too cryptic for its own good, but that didn't stop me at all from enjoying this game to the fullest.

You have two attacks and your dodge is deplorable. It's pretty boring to play. The graphics are cute though.
