Good game but it crashes constantly, can't get through a single stage of one mission half the time.

Unless you enjoy bashing your head against the wall for 30 minutes while the game loads every 5 minutes because the game crashed again and you lost everything and have to start from the beginning again do not buy this game! It is the worst kind of game. It makes you think it is this awesome realistic game that gets you addicted so you keep punishing yourself thinking you can do it some day but no matter how good you get there's always some constant instant death, equipment magically disappearing, and other nonsense at every turn.

Not to mention the official game has been released for months now and they still never fixed the constant crashing and 30 minute load times (new games don't take more than a minute to load on my computer, it's bad programming not demanding processes). And that's after the daily Verify Integrity of Game Files which also takes forever, because without that you get 0 seconds of play time before crash. I've been playing this game for years, I own the expansions which I've never played because I still haven't beaten the base game due to all the loathsome constant nonsense making the game unplayable. It is not worth it, but it's like heroin so just don't start.

Old Early Access Review:

Its an MMORPG with Single Player with an awesome concept that was well put together. The gameplay is very well designed and realistic/life-like. Your character even poops and you can pick up your poop and use it as fertilizer. It is also one of the few games I know of that works with the Occulus virtual reality system.

Though in the time I've played they've made a lot of adjustments, added a lot of new features, and fixed a lot of bugs, the gameplay is still so slow that it's not even worth playing. The amount of satisfaction one could get from the average game in 10 minutes requires more like 10 hours in this game. Though nearly all unofficial servers massively increase the gameplay speed (with multipliers to mechanics such as experience, amunt harvested, and taming), the consequence is dealling with all of their extra potentially buggy mods which you must spend a significant amount of time downloading before being able to enter, as well as potentially harrassing god powered admins, et cetera.

The premise is you wake up naked on an island inhabited by dinos and you have to find food and water and shelter to survive and as you level (max 100) you learn new skills all the way from campfire (level 2) to automatic rocket turrets (at level 90). However with no storyline or goals, the initially novel gameplay gets old and the constant death and majoritively unrewarded effort makes the game not worth the time (less fun for your time than most games). Its in an open alpha right now, the official release is unannounced. If it ever does come out, I wouldn't be surprised if it was $80. But to me the game is worth maybe $5-10.

In the time I've played they've continued to increase the max level and the engrams (skills) every few updates. From what I've read from the developers, they intend to increase tech up to scifi levels. Its an MMO, so you may bump into some castles and stuff made by other players, and other players themselves (if you don't want an even more impossible challenge, play PVE). You can only have 1 character per server but there are literally hundreds of servers and you can play as many characters as you want on different servers.

I think it's very likely that most of the thumbs up are written by people who no longer play the game, and didn't think to update their review. It might be worth getting on sale, as some day it could become a playable game and when it does it will be exceptional. Starting on Offical Servers this game is maybe a couple weeks of ellation, then a few weeks of feeling obligated to continue for your tribe who has mostly quit already, and then not worth playing again. However with new maps and mods on Unofficial Servers that have better balance the game has the potential of being really fun and replayable. But expect to spend more time downloading gigs of mods to get into a server to find our its buggy and unplayable, or that the admins like to play frisbee with your body over thousands of miles (or some other bs), over and over again.

There are unofficial servers that have meticulously balanced or little to no mods which reduces or eliminates the mod buggyness and ones that have admin powers disabled or just have admins who don't cheat or interact with players. It may be difficult to find, but using the Discussion threads and meeting people in the game and chatting with them about servers you've tried you can find them more quickly. Additionally you can play Single Player with any world settings and mods that you want, and invite your friends to play in it with you. So overall, I think this is an experience you should not miss so long as you can afford it.
