I really love this game and don't want all the recent negatives to give the message that the entire update/game is bad. I also hate that my first review after this many hours has to be to defend the game from an update.

First off, I have played most my time on Windows but now use exclusively Linux and it worked very well until this update. I was having the exact same "black screen" issue that some people are mentioning. This will not help Windows users but for Linux users, bleeding edge beta for the experimental proton fixed this issue for me.

Now to the UI. I understand why people are so upset about the UI - I too hate console UIs. The new UI does have some good ideas and look much cleaner but sadly it navigates like a maze. If Crytek uses the same ideas for the UI but reworks it to navigate smoothly for someone using a mouse, it will fix a lot of the negative criticism I've heard of the update.

Please fix the stability/UI of the update and we have a beautiful and extremely fun update.

The new map is inanely awe inspiring. It is huge, it is beautiful, and it adds a ton of new environment layouts that weren't present to the same degree in old maps. At night, the new mini boss creates beautiful firework-like explosions to watch as you advance on the fight. The new map is an amazing addition.

Hunt itself has always had a very special place in my heart. I love Tarkov but I always felt this game almost had an "arcade" Tarkov feel. The game has given me some of the most fun PVP gunfights of my life. The slower firing guns with low magazine sizes have resulted in fights where I rush someone with my knife and stab the entire team as I juke their bullets. This dangerous gameplay has become a bit more dangerous with the updates as it feels like guns are more usable and powerful than they had been in my early days of playing. The PVE parts of the game aren't perfect but the bosses give a nice goal of missions and the rest of the mobs pose real dangers when distracted by other players. This is one of those games where if you have the knack for anything with adrenaline causing PVP, you will find it here. You just might need to learn a lot of the games skills before it makes any sense or feels good at all. For players with a lot of hours, the updates and new gear feel like a God send, but I can understand that new content also makes an already daunting game, even more difficult to dive into.

TLDR; I love hunt. Its fun. 1896 update adds a lot of good stuff but scarred by bad UI and poor stability (for some users).

Be wary and aware of the present issues. I do not regret the purchase now that I can play the game. The game is very fun. I plan to switch to positive once they smooth out the server issues.

The game is way more fun to play than it looks. I wasn't blown away by watching other people's gameplay but once you are in the game it feels very intense and there are plenty of moments I find myself screaming in excitement from good orbital strike on large clusters of enemies. The 3rd person aiming feels well polished and the ability to use first person is lovely. I really like how they have a lot of built in inertia to the first person aiming because it makes it feel like you are in the character for those moments. Every time you dive away from imminent death it feels awesome.

Really good game but be informed on what you are buying into. I bought it at the worst possible time because the servers were completely down and glitched out.

I bought the game, played for 1.2 hours, and got no XP because they pushed a hotfix that ruined XP. I love that I spent $40 on a piece of ♥♥♥♥ that doesn't work. Fix your game please. I am afraid to even play any more time because I want to refund already...

It is very rare that coop games can make me scream and be genuinely concerned to live. This game does so many things right in a genre that is currently very under saturated. They need to take this success and continue to flesh out this beautiful idea. The game is definitely worth the price tag right now but it will be infinitely worth the price tag if they can continue to perfect the frightening randomly generated worlds with more variety and variations. Thank you so much for giving me the type of game I've been longing for for a very long time :)

This game has some annoying glitches like pieces disappearing and then automatically dying on next fight but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is awesome! I had so much fun playing with a friend we just kept rematching over and over and couldn't stop. We thought certain pieces were horrible at the beginning but by the end we realized some of those pieces were among the strongest. If you and 1 other friend are ever bored and don't know what to do, whip out that FPS chess and you will have a blast!

I don't even play this game anymore but they aren't trying very hard to make me want to. This game has begun to ban mod developers. You might think, "Oh that's wonderful! They are getting rid of cheaters!" but that would be incorrect. VRChat modders for the most part have created wonderful quality of life fixes. One thing for example is that the game struggles with FPS. I know for a fact that this could be optimized because mods are easily able to fix the low FPS of the game and make the experience enjoyable again. On the other hand with malicious modders and cheaters they already know their accounts are at risk of being banned and simply do not care about the consequences. So what we see here is a classic act of greed. They are banning a wonderful and active modding community that basically fixes their game for free because instead of using free mods they want you to pay for their VRC+ that doesn't even work as well as the free mods. This situation has made me feel frustrated and sad even though I'm no longer playing this game regularly. To anyone reading this, please realize why them doing this is bad and cancel your VRC+ until the VRChat team starts rethinking these choices. They depend on your money and your time spent in the game. In this way the community also partially owns the game and should fight for a game that actually implements these features and QOL changes or allows modders to continue doing their job for them. Thanks for showing how horrible you are VRChat team. I'm glad I no longer support your game and hope your game fails when people make better and more accessible alternatives.

P.S. NOTE: At the time of writing this review I am not banned and have not used mods on my account for a long while. If I get a ban at this point it would be purely from writing this review.

Edit: Wow... They really did it this time. Easy Antichat now. Really backpedaling. I'm not wasting my time writing a thought out review on this. Right as I was slowly regaining a bit of faith that they would stop caring as it had been a while since the last "FULL MOD BAN" they pull this. Avoid this game and company like the plague.

I have not finished the campaign at this time and may update this review when I have. At this point in playing I can already tell this game is certainly not worth $40. I got it for $20 and I still feel a bit ripped off. The game has finicky movement where it won't let you move if you accidentally walked into an object even slightly, or even a small rock. Every time your head accidentally clips anything the entire screen goes black which in conjunction with the finicky movement can cause for some frustrating moments. The game has several variety on basic pistols that seem to not really do anything different from each other and there is no option to drop guns once you pick them up. The game is also riddled with bugs. The first attempt at playing was ended when my game had a horrible bug which no longer allowed me to move beyond a small region. Animation bugs are frequent (especially for the zombies) and a large majority of items will clip through the floor and be lost. Don't even get me started on how annoying the main character is. Overall, this game is much less fun than most of the free VR games I have purchased. Save yourself the money and only get this if you have nothing left to play and it is on an extreme sale.

Tl;dr - This game is horribly buggy, lacking in fun, annoying main character, and not worth $40.

No Man's Sky has come far from when I wrote my review the first time. The game finally playable and no longer crashes constantly. The graphics have been overhauled and the game doesn't lag like crazy anymore. The gameplay has been revised but at the core it feels the same as it always did. I am very glad I can finally take the time to enjoy the game I bought for $60 2 years ago. I reccomend this game for $30 possibly a bit less but $60 is too much for this game. Be aware that it is full of grinding but the wonder and excitement of finding new things has made up for it.

Not Recommended.

As much as I hate doing this, I am going to be adding to the negative reviews of this game.

No Man's Sky was a game with many fatal flaws. Part of the failure was the developer's fault and the other part was the communites unrealistic expectations. I am not rating this game poorly because I made up what it should be and then it turned out to be worse. This game was filled with lies and the developers dodged questions and have ceased communication since the 18th. This game had so much potential, I really really wanted to like it. I really wanted it to be a good game, but the developers took advantage of us consumers by selling a product that feels like an "early access" game for a hefty $60. The PC launch was delayed and when we finally recieved it, it hardly worked, causing many people to waste many of the precious "refund" hours on just trying to get the game to work so they could judge it correctly. I do not think this game is awful but I think the way the developers handled all of the events following the release, was very unprofessional. The game feels like an abandoned project at this point and leaves me wishing that I never bought it or could get my money back.
