METAL GEAR SURVIVE has a intriguing opening, but the first hours will turn players off since the hunger and thirst meters are unnecessary rough. After you establish your base camp the survival meters become an afterthought and the gameplay focuses on exploring. You need to prepare your trips into to dust, an area with low visibility and one additional survival meter, by stocking up water, food and medical supply.

Gameplay
Same gameplay as MGS:V, which means great control over your character. The basic gameplay loop of exploring -> looting -> improving fits together nicely and can be played for distinct sessions. Base building takes a higher priority in later stages of the game.

Story
Strong opening and setup, but then the story goes missing for hours. Elements of the story go places you would never expect in a survival game. Knowledge about MGS:V is needed to understand parts of the plot.

Technical
Runs on the Fox Engine and I had a flawless performance during my time in the story mode. Always on means you will lose progress if your connection is unstable.

Microtransaction
Konami is known for microtransaction and you will encounter them in Survive. To name a few resource boosters, additional saveslots or squad spots. I just ignored as they didn’t impact my time with the game.

I can recommend METAL GEAR SURVIVE to players who want to spent more time in MGS:V and can deal with the shift from action-adventure to survival.
