The satisfying culmination of mindless Dynasty Warriors carnage in a single pack.
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition is the best entry into the Dynasty Warriors franchise to date if you aren't wearing the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia you might bear for the older entries. It is the epitome of everything Dynasty Warriors has to offer from Dynasty Warriors 1 to Dynasty Warriors 7. The amount of content ranging from all the different stages to the innumerable number of characters the game has to offer is immense coupled with the additional game modes.

+1 Great amount of Story Mode content with each of the four main factions having their stories divided into two routes: historical and hypothetical. One can unlock the hypothetical route AND the extra stages (which too influence the main story) by completing specific objectives in certain battles. Additional scenarios are included in the "Other" faction campaign. The Xtreme Legends expansion introduces Lu Bu's very own storyline into the game with its own historical and hypothetical routes.

+1 Innumerable number of playable characters with their own unique weapons and personalities. Each of them have three Musou attack types in addition to a Rage attack. Characters can also perform two special EX attacks when equipped with their most favourite weapon. The Xtreme Legends expansion also adds in five new playable characters into the already massive roster among which Chen Gong has become one of my favourites due to his weapon, the Art of War Scroll.

+1 Fine graphics for a Warriors game originally released in 2013. I know. It is a console port of the PS3 version with some lighting effects of the PS4 version but, crank all the graphical settings to high and you'll still be satisfied. [Sidenote: Texture quality could've been improved.]

+1 Gloriously high-octane soundtrack which is more than 7 hours long. This is due to the Xtreme Legends Complete Edition encompassing music from earlier Dynasty Warriors titles in the hypothetical portions of each campaign in the Story Mode with four pieces solely remixed for this game.

+1 Hilariously exaggerated voice-acting brings life to every character in the game. Simply listen to Zhang Jiao or Chen Gong speak.

+1 Dynamic cutscenes which do not hamper the flow of action in battles. Begin the Wei campaign for example.

+1 Return of an expanded Free Mode. Now you can fight as any character for any army in any unlocked stage of the Story Mode with loads of customization options available like being able to change army costumes and enabling/disabling specific hypothetical scenarios for battles.

+1 A better Ambition Mode and a new Challenge Mode although I don't play them often.

-1 No English story narration, only subtitles. Same goes for dialogues between characters in the camp. Saddening indeed.

-1 Horrendous DLC policy. I understand this is business but, comparing the prices of the DLCs to the type of content they offer, it's a rip-off.

Overall:
8/10
A must-have if you're a fan of Dynasty Warriors or simply someone who loves hack-and-slash.
