Very fun little racing game, especially in multiplayer. Plenty of gamemodes and the tracks are well designed.

Only complaint is that time trial mode is a bit frustrating, since getting the top times on some tracks requires passing through checkpoints that you can't actually see as closely as possible, so there's some trial and error involved. On some tracks you can take massive shortcuts, and one some (the one with the train stands out), your lap wont count if you take some very mild corner-cuts that just shave off tenths of seconds.

They took Crusader 1 and made it worse.
There's not a single thing here that is done better than a game from 20 years ago, that you can routinely get on sale for next to nothing.

They haven't even addressed the frustrating elements of the original. Lords have been beefed up even more, and it's harder to build a sizable army, so you end up in situations where the war was won 30 minutes ago, and you're just waiting to amass an army large enough to finish off an opponent with absolutely no chance of winning.

Stone walls take much more stone to build now, which I initially liked because it makes having a large castle more of an accomplishment, but the walls fall down just as quickly as in the original game, so the end result is just a game less focused on castle-building, the one thing that makes it unique.

The AI has become markedly worse. Some of this is by design, which is even harder to forgive. To nerf fire ballistas, they've been patched so they won't attack on their own anymore. That was the best idea they had. Not making them weaker, or making better methods to counter them, just making the AI too inept to defend themselves. Overall units are just generally much harder to move precisely compared to the originals.

Another game where you wish there was a neutral review option.

It's a very Katamari Damacy inspired game with much of what made that game so fun to play missing. At larger sizes, instead of tearing up the entire game world, you're still getting stuck on small fences and getting ragdolled by cars that are tens of thousands of pounds lighter than you.

It seems like it would still be a fun multiplayer game, but unfortunately there was no one else online.

I really wish there was a neutral review option. This isn't a terrible game, but 20 years after the release of the original, they still haven't come close to making anything as good as SH1/Crusader, and sadly this one, even though it's a better effort than most of their previous titles, doesn't change that.

I really don't care too much about graphics in RTS games. This one looks like a decade old game and that's fine with me, however, it also runs very poorly on a good PC, so when there's not many units on screen and it's not pushing the envelope in terms of graphics, it's a mystery why it runs so incredibly poorly.

In terms of gameplay it's fairly similar to the Strongholds before it, but with the introduction of the Warlords mechanic. These are small forts between you and your rival that you can conquer to get aid like extra troops or resource deliveries. It sounds interesting but in practice it kind of ruins what makes Stronghold different from other RTS games. Castle building is an afterthought now. Most of the fighting occurs around the warlord estates, so building armies is far more important than a well built castle.

You can also capture them diplomatically, which again is a feature that sounds great, then quickly falls apart in practice. Recruiting warlords just consists of spending more diplomacy points than your rivals, so instead of an interesting mechanic, it's just looking at a window and clicking to make numbers go up. and hoping your opponent does it less.

Another weird change in base construction is that you can no longer build anything outside your estate, including resource buildings and farms, so there's no reason to fight over territory, except for the warlord estates. It really removes a lot of what made Crusader fun, fighting over limited farmland. I don't understand the logic behind it at all, other than forcing you to rely on warlords.

Finally the campaign. It's there. It's a bunch of random missions with some semblance of a story connecting them. Most of them are pretty forgettable, and some of the sieges are a bit tedious on the highest difficulties where the best strategy is using the fire at area feature of archers and catapults to safely but extremely inaccurately kill your enemies from outside their range of fire. For what it's worth the original Stronghold had the same issue, but it's unfortunate that two decades later they still haven't improved it.

Overall it's a decent game plagued by performance issues and some weird game mechanics, but it's also the least focused on castle-building in a series that's defined by it. It's really hard to recommend when the originals are also on Steam if you want a castle building experience, and there are plenty of better options like the Age of Empires series if you want a more straightforward RTS.

This is certainly a game that exists.

Not a game that's worth $16, or really worth money at all, but it does technically have all the features to qualify as a game.

You play as a bug that spits at other bugs until they die. That's it.
The other bugs walk at you extremely slowly so most of the game is spent walking backwards and clicking your mouse a lot, because the other bugs have a decent amount of health and respawn too many times. I'm not sure how anyone thought this would be enjoyable enough to release, let alone charge money for, but it's here.

There are also hazards on some levels that you could theoretically lead your enemies into, but they really don't come into play at all because by the time you've led them anywhere you've spat on them enough to kill them.

You can get double jump legs and climb all the buildings.

They may have underdelivered on their promises but they also made the best climbing game since Getting Over It.

It's a tiny slice of the full game at the moment.

But it's a really really fun slice.

This game is the sum of human suffering condensed into 100 gigabytes.

No action no matter how insignificant goes unpunished. Want to make your player's surname "Basketball"? Let's just take 2 full minutes to check whether or not that name contains profanity.

There's presumably basketball at some point, but reaching the court is an arduous journey through a bizarre UI, self-congratulatory FMVs and seas of product placement. Sports games are known for being repackaged versions of last year's game, and this one is out to prove you wrong by drowning you in gimmicks like being able to design your own Nike Air Jordan™ shoes with a level of detail that far exceeds the customization possible in the character editor. The whole thing feels like it was made by firing trademarks at each other in a particle accelerator.

There's your usual money grab modes if you want to play pachinko instead of basketball, but I can't comment on those because I can't think of anything I'd like to contribute to the funding of less than a potential NBA2K21.

The game's one redeeming feature is that it will frequently crash to spare you from having to continue playing it.
