Fantastic game. For anyone out there who enjoys a classic 8-bit style game, you gotta give it a try. If you are a fan of shmups and dungeon crawlers, this is an awesome mashup of the genres. It's both shallow (in a good way) and deep, and it can be played in short bursts or long runs. They nailed the gameplay, it's super tight and satisfying -- I *never* feel like getting hit was out of my control. Truly a great accomplishment and I love supporting developers who take chances on creating games like this.

This game is incredible. This game manages to capture everything about the originals while still being new with an unmatched new gameplay system. I really can't say enough good things about this game. Just get it.

I was really excited about the idea of this game. The author did a good job of providing a sense of "hype" to those of us that enjoy old-school looking and brutally difficult games.

However, in no way did this game deliver what I had thought it was going to be. The author often touted how he doesn't believe in Steam sales and I thought that was respectable so I preordered to get a small discount. Big mistake. It's rare I regret game purchases, but this is some major buyer's remorse here. This game is about as bare-bones as it can get. It's esoteric, which I can enjoy (in, say, Dark Souls), but to a fault. You have to spend time designing a trap for your home and you have to be able to pass your own trap in order to "set it". This is sensible, since we obviously don't want people to make impossible traps. But that doesn't really prevent the creation of "impossible" traps. It's very easy to create a set of traps that are 100% guess work and one step in the wrong direction and it's impossible to escape.

At the end of the day, this just isn't a fun or good game. It looks, feels and plays like a high-school project. I absolutely do not recommend this game to anybody.

The best game since the PS1/N64 era. Seriously, why haven't you played it yet?
