I bought Natural Selection 2 back in the beta from the hype it generated among the community of players who played the original Natural Selection, which was a mod to the Half-Life 1 engine (just like Counter-Strike originally was). During the beta, there weren't very many servers especially in Asia, which led me to eventually run a dedicated server in Singapore.

Since then, the game has come a long way and is also supported by other experienced community members. The inviting community that the game has helps with overcoming the large learning curve this game brings about (if you're used to shooting, the whole alien side's melee style will be new to you). The community developers show a great passion in the game and while the number of players currently don't seem all that encouraging, I'll still go back to this game once in a while to get a good round or two of well-coordinated, communicative, responsive teamwork against a well-orchestrated defense from the opposing team.

Thus far, there has been no other game that could achieve and requires this level of cooperation among complete strangers from countries all over.
