The number one objective to playing a game is to have fun, will you have fun playing Fallout 4? Oh most definitely.

This game does what Bethesda do best, a solid, experience filled ride through an open world with tonnes of things to explore. It also does the other thing Bethesda do best, bugs. There are a lot of hindering bugs with the game, such as your gun randomly disappearing, not being able to talk to an NPC unless you re-load, or the rare game crash on bringing up the Pip-boy.

I'm not saying these bugs are acceptable, but at the same time they do not deserve to give the game a damning review like many other reviews seem to give. But if you're not a stuck up elitist who wants his port to be perfect, you'll have a blast listening to the Ink Spots whilst firing cannonballs out of your literal Hand Cannon at a Supermutant Behemoth.

There have been many changes to the game that are views as a negative, such as the removal of the Skill system. I was disappointed and saddened upon discovering this until about 15 hours in I noticed I never once was thinking "put all my points into speech and the game will become a thousand times easier." Like I did in FO3 or NV.

After all, Fallout isn't an RPG anymore, it's a sandbox game and FO4 innovates on this. Fallout hasn't been an RPG since the days of Fallout 1 and 2 where it was like you could be sat around a table playing a game of Dungeons of Dragons in post apocalyptic America. Now it's just an immersive experience for you to delve into and share what you find with your friends.

To properly review this game I think it's worth that I explain a situation that occurred in one of my latest games as Sisters of Sigmar. My warband was battered during a story mission and I was certain I would lose the battle and pay dearly with tonnes of injuries, probably ending my run as this warband. Instead the Mercenary Ogre who was about to kill the VIP I had to keep alive missed three time in a row against her whilst she was stunned. The level 0 henchman Novice I had with her managed to land a critical hit, stunning the ogre, which led to my spellcaster calling a comet down from the sky and crushing the ogre where he stood, winning the battle for me.

Now, this game is a beta. Like all betas, it comes with the "don't buy if you rage easily at faults only a game can do." Case in point: three quarters of my game time so far has been with my Mercenary Warband. I go into their fourth story mission and the games bugs out, the enemy I was facing never ends its turn, probably a unit I cannot see moving about endlessly trying to reach one of my guys. I was forced to abandon the mission, and all of my warband was injured. All three of my heroes died, two archers lost their arms and would have to be fired, and my leader became a simpleton. Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased.

Despite this, the game is immensely fun and satisfying if you can get over its rocky starting out phase. The interface tells you nothing on the surface when in-game, requiring you to be out in warband management or to go into a seperate menu to find out what "Righteous Fury" actually does and why it always misses. The payment and treatment system gets in the way a bit too, you will often be forced to fire and replace henchmen and heroes to keep your warband at fighting strength. However this can often be wasteful, the game seems to force you to pay for treatment and upkeep before you can fire any warrior in the warband, which seems utterly bizarre to me.

Despite these negatives, the game shines on premise alone. The way characters are controlled is similar to turn based tactics games like Valkyria Chronicles. With the RPG elements of the tabletop Warhammer Fantasy Battles game, like the original board game was intended to be based around. The amount of customisation, stat variance, spells, skills, weapons, armours and trinkets in the game at present allow you to make your warband however you desire. This makes for some great innovation as people try to find the best possible set ups for your heroes and henchmen, but due to the diverse choice of loadouts, you can very easily counter these "metas" of soldiers should you want to play online.

Multiplayer is not why you will buy this game mind you, the game's AI is not stupid, but can be exploited once you have figured out pathing, who it will target, etc. You will often find times when your spellcaster is near to death and hide them behind a shieldwall of heroes, and the AI will sooner run the length of the map for another attempt at that spellcaster than fight into your men. Ledges and cliffs are often exploitable too. Sisters of Sigmar come with no ranged weapons besides their spells, and the AI will refuse to use shortcuts like climbing and leaping, this results in very easy missions that are labelled "brutal" just because you stacked 5 archers on a cliff and put your captain and hero with a high parry chance in the way of the stairs up, leading to a Turkey shoot for your men.

Overall, I would say this game has btrought me hours of fun already. I've been frustrated with how the game can ♥♥♥♥ you over sometimes, but that's just how these games go. XCOM fans who enjoy the iron man difficulties will find a passioniate love for this game. As it takes XCOM's "lose a man and that's it" style of gameplay and turns it up to eleven, with a whole host of mental and physical injuries that can steal your level 7 Champion from you in the blink of an eye. Needless to say, I do love this game.

This new iteration to the Age of Wonders franchise combines the empire management of the Civilization games and the turn based, hexagonal combat system of the Heroes of Might and Magic series perfectly. The world full of vast biomes and areas to explore has a lot to offer. From sending your armies into a crypt to find a dragon defended by dragonkin and skeletons to sending your army against the Elvish Arch Druid army, only for him to call upon the Forest God to decimate your musketeers. This game offers amazing customization options as well, from creating your character and his looks to choosing his race, his class, his attributes and his spells. All of these options affect how you will play the game. Will you become a Dwarf Arch Druid and heal the land around your empire to reap the awards of a bountiful Harvest? Or will you become a Dragonkin Mage and call down fire and plague and destroy your rival's lands? These spells and skills also affect the combat in the game. Your heroes will have one time spells to use to decimate a particulary powerful creature or even call up a large random creature, which turns out to be a poisonous death adder. Overall, this game is a great source of fun and enjoyment and I can see myself putting many more hours into this game.

This game has an incredibly steep learning curve which is more like a cliff and so most people dont get further than playing against a cheating AI for the most part. However, I can say with certainty this is possibly one of the best Tactical RTS games I have ever played. The online community is helpful beyond belief and the feel of a 10v10 when you have a checkpoint charlie stand off with the enemies tank is incredibly fun to watch. Not only that, but the addition of Jets and bombers and the balance of infantry and their variety keeps this game very interesting to watch.
