A beautiful and ruthless adventure in a world dominated by a distorted religion.

Blasphemous's most vital characteristic is its pixel art, blending gothic aesthetics with the game's brutal style. The scenes are captivating yet often frightening, featuring macabre entities and mysterious creatures. Spanish culture inspires blasphemous settings, the Middle Ages and Catholicism, represented by locations, enemies, symbols and more. These elements create a disconcerting but exciting universe.

"For twisted are, were, and will be, the paths of the miracle."

Exploring this world is fascinating, with stone cathedrals, a leprosy-stricken village, and a mountaintop convent. The artist's gory and morbid imagery is inspired by violent Catholic iconography and Dolorism - a doctrine that exhorts to "suffer to atone for one's sins."
Some moments are so striking they motivate you to continue, eager to see what crazy visions lie ahead.

"Make my chest hurt with regret. Forge your punishment and nail it deep."

The level design is well-developed, featuring shortcuts and secret passages. However, the platforming sections can become tedious due to instant-death thorns or bottomless abysses, forcing you back to the last save point and requiring repetitive travel. Despite this, exploration is generally a well-balanced challenge. The distance between save points forces careful progression, concentrating on each confrontation to avoid fatal errors. From these moments comes a sense of achievement commensurate with the effort made and great satisfaction at opening shortcuts, which are plentiful throughout the levels; these mark coherent design thought as whole and intelligently connected parts. The game alternates between vertical combat-focused rooms and horizontal platforming areas, making exploration an absolute pleasure.

"Go fearlessly, Penitent One."

Combat is functional, with a simple action palette available from the start, except for a few unlockable special moves. You can perform a basic sword strike, parry, dodge, and jump over attacks. Giving three responses to opposing attacks - each enemy has an ideal response, learned through experience. Boss battles, however, require mastering their attack patterns.

The game's combat and exploration mechanics are simple in their execution. It is complex regarding its inventory system - with several options that affect gameplay. An excellent example is the passive skill items that can be gained, called Rosary Beads. Some objects protect against poisoning and things that allow them to deal more damage or gain energy by breaking items in the scenario. There are also Relics, which grant the ability to see hidden platforms and hear voices from specific statues; Prayers are spells within this game; Hearts of Mea culpa add buffs to the sword through items found during our journey; Quest Items are abundant because of the several side quests available throughout the game; finally, there are Key Items which serve specific purposes like opening doors or unlocking treasure chests.

"Sorrowful be the heart, Penitent One, full of clemency."

Death is inevitable but forgiving. Your Fervour bar, utilized for specialized techniques, will become capped more with each death. You will also receive a penalty to gain Tears (In-game currency). These penalties can be undone by returning to the place of death or visiting a specific location.

Simple. Beautiful. Brutal. Challenging. Harshly punishable and rewarding.

Sekiro's world is both brutal and beautiful. It presents a masterful vision of Japan's Sengoku period. The game's intricate levels are full of elements that instigate strategy and open possibilities to explore interconnected scenarios full of secrets and alternate routes. Scaling vertical heights with the grappling hook and using your Shinobi's agility to traverse rooftops and castles create a sense of freedom.

The game blends technology and mysticism, featuring creatures like giant snakes and Youkai - alongside rudimentary technology such as mechanical prostheses and other devices that can be combined, allowing for creative and innovative combat solutions to complement the use of the katana. Sekiro's story is more direct, focusing on mundane and mystical issues. It includes ample dialogue, cutscenes, and story elements without sacrificing gameplay. While the lore is rich, it can sometimes be confusing due to mistranslations. Meanwhile, the soundtrack, enhanced by Taiko drums, flutes, and other traditional Japanese instruments, creates an immersive and atmospheric experience.

Unlike many games, Sekiro does not rely on player levelling or farming. Success depends on your ability to adapt and learn from mistakes. Skills enhance your range of attacks and provide small bonuses like increased healing power and slight damage boosts, but they don't necessarily make you stronger.

"How many times have you died and come back to life for my sake...?"

The game is challenging; death is a constant and harshly punished. In Sekiro, you can resurrect a limited number of times, but when you inevitably die, half of your progress toward the next skill point and your Sen (in-game currency) is permanently lost. However, there is a slight chance that 'Unseen Aid' will prevent this loss, with the probability of this effect displayed as a percentage in the pause menu.

"Hesitation is defeat."

Combat in Sekiro is fast-paced and complex. Every encounter focuses on breaking an opponent's posture to deliver a fatal blow. Simply attacking isn't efficient; most enemies will defend and counterattack. Defending and parrying while observing enemy actions is crucial. There is little room for error, as each attack can be fatal. Aggression is necessary since opponents' postures recover over time, but reckless attacks often lead to death. Each confrontation is a tense puzzle, requiring careful observation and precise counteractions.

Many enemies are aggressive and have complex attack patterns that require mastery of the game's mechanics to defeat. The diversity of attacks is excellent, even among similar foes; some enemies execute grabs you must dodge, while others attack so fiercely that parrying is essential. Some enemies' broad attacks require constant movement. Mastering new techniques and refining old ones is necessary to excel in the battle system.

"There is no shame in losing a battle. But you must take revenge by any means necessary."

Persistence yields results. Each death provides a learning experience, and defeating a challenging boss brings a profound sense of triumph. Sekiro's beautiful design, intricate combat, and punishing difficulty create an unforgettable gaming experience.

A Captivating Tale with Frustrating Gameplay

Vampyr offers an exciting story set in the gloomy environment of 1918 London, a city ravaged by influenza and the after-effects of World War I. You play as Jonathan Reid, a doctor turned vampire, torn between his Hippocratic Oath and his bloodthirsty nature. The detailed scenery and dark soundtrack create an immersive atmosphere that keeps you engaged despite the gameplay challenges.

Your choices significantly impact the game's progression. Helping people without feeding on them allows the city to prosper, but it also means you'll struggle to enhance Reid's abilities. Although it may be challenging to adopt a passive play style, it is perfectly possible to complete the game without experiencing a single instance of feeding. If you're looking for a real challenge, hard mode will make you feel the full impact of your decisions. As you assist and learn more about the citizens, the urge to drink blood grows stronger – with greater rewards for feeding on those you have helped.

"Why convince me to live if it was to kill me later? If it was a game, you succeeded, you cruel demon."

And while you may refrain from killing an innocent, not everyone you encounter is an upstanding London citizen. Regardless of your choices, the game encourages you to interact with its NPCs, each with a well-developed backstory and excellent voice acting.

However, the game isn't without its frustrations. The combat camera and movement controls are clunky and difficult to master. Additionally, occasional crashes can disrupt your experience. Fortunately, the game saves automatically, so no progress is lost. Despite these issues, the overall experience is rewarding and enjoyable.

Vampyr's captivating story and atmospheric setting make it a game worth playing – despite the occasional frustrations in gameplay. If you're willing to overlook some technical flaws, you'll find an immersive and morally complex adventure waiting for you.

"Alien: Isolation" is a visually stunning and highly detailed game, lauded for its excellent atmosphere and fantastic sound design, which combined intensify moments of dread and suspense.

"In space, no one can hear you scream."

In the plot, you will take on the role of engineer Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, the protagonist of the classic 1979 film "Alien," who has been missing since the Nostromo spaceship incident. Amanda seizes an opportunity that promises crucial clues about her mother's whereabouts but instead finds herself trapped on the massive space station Sevastopol.

Survival is your primary goal, and with limited resources, you must rely on distraction, stealth, and strategy. While you can find weapons to fend off various enemies, using them is risky; combat noises attract a much more dangerous foe—the Xenomorph, against which most weapons are useless. The flamethrower is an exception, capable of temporarily repelling the creature.

Adopting a stealth approach is highly advisable. You can craft specific tools to help you remain undetected. The Xenomorph is intelligent, unpredictable, and possesses heightened senses, able to hear even the slightest noises. It can ambush you anywhere, leading to some spectacular and horrifying death scenes. The game effectively captures the tension and fear experienced by the original characters in the film, creating a feeling of helplessness.

For the best experience, I recommend playing on hard difficulty, as the game suggests. Lower difficulty levels result in less challenging AI, which can undermine the game's purpose.

The only downside is that the game could have been shorter, as some events become somewhat repetitive over time.
