So. I don't buy games full price or even follow many games. But I've started gaming again since I got my steam deck. I play a lot on that and more than ever on the PC too. I read or heard a few things about this. It seemed like fast paced and fun. I'll say it was what I wanted it to be and more. I've only played 2 hours so far. All at once just now. It's pretty light hearted and cinematic. It's basically an interactive movie. In it seems the best way possible. The gameplay is fine the voice acting is like the best I've ever heard. It's completely story driven. You are inside the story. I have a bad memory idk if this is like canonical but it should be how good it is. It should count as a movie.
Not to mention like I didn't get killed yet but I've died. Fell off ledges and at first I was devastated but you literally just instantly restart 5 seconds back lol. So far it's been more easy fun than any game I've played like since I can remember. It's very very very much a game. So much cliche old school type game. But it works so far. I'm happy I spent $18 on it for sure. Like the phrase "rootin tootin good time" is how it makes me feel.... I think it's because it doesn't try to be anything. The gameplay is in the spirit of the movie. If you like GOTG you will like it probably.

So for Steam Deck you cant use mouse and gamepad. So It sucks that way. I don't bother switching to total M&K emulation. I'm just playing it on my PC. It's fun anyway, SO minus for controls. And plus for being a good game.

So I literally just did the exact same thing and died 168 times in a row (It counts). Over and over. Went online and found out that ain't even the way you do it.... Crazy.

So they made this unbearably annoying on Steam Deck. All I wanted to do was use the Gamepad layout with Mouse Trackpad. Impossible. There is no reason you can't do that. The mouse trackpad is so much better than joystick trackpad or just the joystick. I'm telling you it's a whole different game with the mouse trackpad. Yet tryingto get all the controls to work right is impossible once you leave gamepad mode. In which you have to restart the game to do it. It's one or the other. Granted there is an in game mapping thing that shows prompts for what you make it.

Yet it doesn't matter on Steam Deck because it's emulated if you leave Gamepad mode anyway. Then the menus are forced to use the mouse basically. The controls become so fragmented across menus, HUDs and in-game controls. It is so annoying. The game is good and I almost refunded it but within the first few minutes i was wanting to see the story. So I choose to put up with the Bastardized emulated controls on Steam Deck just to not use the right joystick. I hate it. That's why I play on a PC. All they have to do is let you use the mouse trackpad. Plenty of other games let you keep Gamepad with a Mouse trackpad. I guess because it a Sony Port that was too complicated for them.

The game is good. The Control options SUCK. I wish the game wasn't good.

So the game is good. I just wish it didn't become impossible to play. Like I got to the 11th level boss of 13 levels. And that is ridiculous.... I played on the easiest setting. I always do. I don't care. I paid for the games I just want to have some fun and move on. Not redo a level over and over. Anyway at that point the game becomes not fun to play. If they just made easy beatable (Like most other games). It would be fine.

So then I did God Mode to beat the boss and it flags your save file. So you don't get achievements or anything. It's not even fun at the point you start using cheats anyway. But even on God Mode the boss is annoying to beat. It just wasn't fun anymore. So never played level 12 and 13. For that is why I can't give it 5 stars. It's like 3 to me. I wouldn't even recommend it. It's not playable for me.

So I have never played these games. I just bought this the GOTY Edition and The 2 Handsome Edition. I started here on the steam deck. Honestly the game is legit. Like you could think it was a new game by a smaller Dev in 2023. Everything has seemed to go well on the Steam Deck. You have to click start with your finger in the launcher that's about it. I switched the joystick trackpad to mouse. Works fine with the gamepad layout so that's a bonus; not having to remap the whole thing because I prefer the way the real mouse emulation feels over joystick mouse emulation.

I started getting some new weapons then when the enemies start exploding its sweet and satisfying. Then they get stronger and you're like damnnn. Then you get a new gun and you're like sweeeet. Then the boss comes and you're like damnnn. Then you finally beat him and get a new gun and you're like sweeet.

I've noticed this and watched some reviews. This appears to be the point of everything. I did get to the second boss bonehead and found out I wasn't ready. My damage did nothing and he killed me instantly so I had to go do my other quests and I have leveled up and stuff and got new guns. I was able to beat him without even shooting him over the fence like a coward and still dying and running out of ammo and money lol. So yeh. Needless to say this game is super addicting without having like any sort of that pay mechanics. It's only play mechanics lol..... I like the game play.

After an hour of this game I can say if you never have played this and you have doubts about the style or the age. Man it's actually very fun and satisfying. I've came to learn just because it says released 2022 doesn't make it better than something timeless like this. It took me an hour on the first game to a be fan.

Edit: For anyone new. The main thing I struggled to learn for a bit was when you get multiple missions to do make sure to look and see the difficulty of each one. Depending on your level and the level of the enemies in that mission it will change. So select the missions suitable for your level. I made the mistake of just thinking a mission was a mission. NO. Leveling up suitably for each thing is like a must. Absolute must.

SO yeah. I played 1 remastered a while back, on a crappy PC, it was good. I had 2 remastered but didn't feel like playing it again right then. Then built a computer and didn't feel it was good use of my gaming time.

Long story short just got a Steam Deck. I played Doom and This BioShock 2 Remastered and it was amazing. Once I got a Steam Input layout I wanted it was a "so fantastic" experience. It runs great on Steam Deck I don't recall any problems whatsoever. So I'm not saying other people are lying but only that in both my experiences with both of these remasters it was flawless. I never played or owned the original so I don't have any animosity for a Remaster.

If you have the experience I had I would highly recommend catching these on sale on playing them on computer or steam deck. I used Left trackpad as 1-9 and mode shifted it for F1-F8. The right joystick and dpad as more inputs. I had everything on there. It was good.

The game reorganizing your Plasmids and having that order always seeming unstable is annoying. But that's the games fault and its 10+ years late to complain about that. LOL

So I only played 15 minutes on Steam Deck and felt the need to come here. So this game out of the 10+ I have played or tried was the 2nd easiest for me to pick up and play. Right after Doom 2016 which is the Top so far. The thing they have in common I think is they have working gamepad with mouse trackpad layouts. You can use the right joystick but I despise that thing. But both work. For some other games that have no real implied support I don't mind just going through the keyboard bindings for 20 minutes and setting the controller up. Then they work fine for me. The worst to me is games that try to force you to use right joystick then want to emulate the joystick onto the trackpad. OMG, that is garbage.
Yet having the gaamepad layout for games that are suitable for them is nice to have everything set up and have the right prompts. But right joystick ruins it for me.
SO in the end this game has gamepad layout with right tackpad as mouse. I think it seems to confuse the in game prompts because depending on what key your touching you get the prompts for that. If you are touching joystick you get the gamepad prompts then you touch the trackpad to look and it flicks back to keyboard prompts. IT's fine though. I applaud the effort some one put to have a well functional layout that can work for everyone. And the fact that the game launches no problems.

Don't even bother to buy. ubisoft is impossible to use on deck. they are trash

Well I played for 20 minutes and already can tell I like it. Not to mention I'm in a situation where I am playing on a crappy APU with no GPU; I get an okay 40-60 fps in low settings. That's fine for me I understand and am happy with it for now. The point is that it can be played on low spec hardware and you can still have some fun. It definitely hearkens back to Portal. Which has so many fond memories for me. This seems to play smoothly and give you that same feeling. I don't really play games anymore and I just happened to look and see this. I am happy I dropped the $20 and gave it a shot. This is exactly what I wanted to play.
