My friends paid half for this game so I can play with them. I feel bad because the game sucks and none of us play this anymore.

Battle Royale is one of the worst video game genres. Change my mind

Compared to Risen 1, this game is better in terms of graphics, exploration, and controls. The factions are somewhat worse because one is better for late game but makes you too overpowered, while the other one offers a lot of interesting abilities for roleplaying purposes but doesn't help you much near the end.

The pirate theme does not indicate that this is truly a pirate RPG. Sure, there are treasure hunts and parrots, but you only dress like a pirate and use the ship to travel between islands. No ship-to-ship combat, no boarding parties, no ship customization. All the fighting is still on land much like the first game.

Risen 1 was set on a single island where you started out with nothing and had to fight for scraps until you get powerful gear. In Risen 2, you pretty much have a better start and you already have a companion early on to make combat easier. There is still a sense of progression until midgame, but it gets sooo easy once you choose that one, powerful faction. Exploring the different islands in search for legendary loot is one of the best parts of the game.

Combat is the same, mediocre hit-and-dodge system. Ranged weapons are so much better compared to the first game, even though melee still plays a huge part in most situations. Blocking is half as effective because there are no shields, so parrying is the way to go. Pickpocketing is easier but uses a less interesting mechanic than Risen 1. You can finish the game easily without Alchemy, so don't bother with that. A new mechanic called Voodoo is unique but very situational.

There are funny moments and NPC interactions just like Risen 1 which you may either like, tolerate, or hate depending on your fondness for the protagonist's dry humor. A few familiar characters returned but most of them are just forgettable.

Overall, Risen 2 improved upon the graphical shortcomings of its predecessor, but some gameplay elements got slightly worse or stayed the same. It's still a classic Eurojank game with the right amount of length (30-40 hrs), some funny voice lines, and awkward cutscenes. If you liked Risen 1 and the Gothic games, give this one a try.

Worth buying full price because you get not just one or two, but SIX Halo games. There might be some connectivity issues for co-op and multiplayer, but single player campaigns alone are enough to keep you entertained. Play them in chronological order if you want the full Halo story experience. 9/10

Pros
+ immersive gameplay
+ good musical scores
+ exploring is fun but also unpredictable, even fast travel has its own risks
+ great character progression
+ alchemy is actually an engaging activity
+ there is a reading skill and you can choose not to learn it
+ you have a pet dog
+ the quests are just the right mix of unique, fun, challenging, and standard fetch-or-grind
+ gameplay length is just right (30-40 hrs main story, another 50+ hrs for the DLCs)
+ plenty of customization options for armor and clothing
+ some memorable characters and dialogue
+ the DLCs add a lot of interesting content

Cons
- good luck fighting multiple enemies at once
- horse can't run through some bushes
- some perks can ruin the immersion
- some quest steps are actually timed so you might fail them if you wait too long
- it's too easy to become overpowered for the main story if you do the DLCs
- a lot of bugs and glitches

I give it an overall score of 8.5/10. A must try game for RPG lovers that want to try something medieval without magic or other fantasy elements.

P.S. Use the unlimited saving mod if you don't want to risk losing important progress due to bugs and glitches

+ story-driven
+ immersive world
+ soundtrack
+ mission variety
+ realistic driving
+ Thompson submachine gun with 50 round drum magazine

- too much driving in some missions
- cover system can be frustrating
- no manual saving or quick saving

Despite the large map, there's no "free-roam" mode; you only have the option to ignore the mission objectives and drive around if you feel like exploring. The driving is more comparable to LA Noire than GTA or Saint's Row. There are speed limits, penalties from violations, and slippery roads can affect your handling.

Driving around while listening to the radio is very relaxing, sometimes you can listen news reports about recent events, usually relating to your previously finished mission. The radio stations really capture the feeling of living in the 1950s. As for the combat, it's mostly manageable. However, the checkpoint system makes Hard difficulty quite frustrating at times because the save points are far from each other.

The story is nice, you can finish it in 15 hours or so. The ending kinda feels like a cliffhanger, especially since the third game did not continue the story. After you complete the story, there's not much left to do. You can replay missions if you missed out on some collectibles, but these are completely optional.

There's a definitive edition with enhanced graphics and stuff, but the classic one has aged well. 7/10

The early game is very punishing because of the clunky movements. Once you learn how to dodge, block, and parry, you're going to be alright. Be careful of exploring too far, you might end up fighting monsters that are way beyond your level.

The middle game gets interesting. Once you get better armor and weapons, you can start exploring the island to find some loot. Always prioritize your skill points on the weapon mastery of your choice. Sneak and pickpocket are very valuable if you want easy solutions for most NPC quests. Alchemy makes you even more powerful late game. Smithing isn't really needed, but you can make some useful trinkets and it's a nice place to dump those extra skill points.

Late game becomes ridiculously easy. All you have to do is dodge and time your power attacks carefully, and all enemies can be easily defeated. The dungeon levels were more of a nuisance than a challenge, some puzzles are very obvious while others are not. The boss fight was very underwhelming because at this point, you have already boosted your stats to max level.

The story's pacing and the character progression feels just right. Exploring the surface of the island is fun especially during the first two chapters, while the areas below the island are not fun at all. Pickpocketing is unique and quite fun compared to other games. The dialogue is mostly bland with some dry humor every now and then, but at least your character can talk. As with all Piranha Bytes games, this one has so many bugs so make sure to save your game often.

Overall, this game is worth the time. 8/10

A wonderful remake of Half-Life 1. The Xen chapter was vastly improved in terms of content and visuals, adding an extra 2-3 hours to the overall length of the game. This can either be a challenge or an annoyance, depending on your interest towards platforming and puzzle-solving. I love the extra things they added such as additional NPC dialogue, rock music during some parts of the game, and the alternate endings. You might experience a few crashes especially during manual saves and alt-tabbing.

If you haven't played the original Half-Life, you can still enjoy this game. Just take note that this is a remake of a classic from the year 1997, and the devs did their best to retain the mechanics and the "feel" of the original game. Both Half-Life 1 and Black Mesa feel obsolete now compared to other sci-fi FPS games, because the newer games learned and improved from its shortcomings. But if you're feeling nostalgic about Half-Life, then make sure not to miss out on this remake.

Overall, I give it an 8/10.

This review is only for the campaign, because I did not play multiplayer and extinction.

Story 7/10
The plot twists were kinda predictable if you watched a lot of action movies. The buildup was slow at first but became more thrilling near the end. However, the ending was too disappointing for me.

Characters 6/10
My favorite character was Riley, the dog. That shows how unmemorable most of the characters are for me.

Soundtrack 5/10
Honestly, I could not remember any track that stood out in the game. But the music was not horrible, either.

Gameplay 8/10
The missions had a lot of variety. You got stealth, vehicle control, underwater, outer space, infiltration, hold-the-line, vehicle chase, and more. The dog missions were unique, but there wasn't much of it.

Performance 6/10
I managed to run this on Windows 10 with just 4GB RAM (despite the 6GB minimum requirement). The game only crashed once for me, and it stutters at the beginning of the mission but gets better the rest of the way.

Difficulty 5/10
I played on Veteran on my first and only run, and it was just the right amount of challenge. The only time where I got a bit frustrated was during one of the underwater missions, but I figured it out soon enough.

Replayability 3/10
I finished the campaign and unlocked all the achievements on my first run, so I guess I already experienced everything the campaign had to offer. I probably won't be replaying this again for a few years, unless a sequel comes out.

Price 4/10
Worth buying at a heavy discount if you just want to play the campaign. But Call of Duty games are not worth buying at full price on Steam anyway.

Conclusion:
Slightly above average campaign experience, but not as good as Modern Warfare or Black Ops. I really just wanted to see Riley.

A classic Western FPS whose story still holds up today. You alternate between two characters, each having different personalities and playstyles. The levels have a lot of variety: stealth, platforming, gunplay, and timed chases.

The graphics are obviously dated, but the realistic combat makes up for it (bullets have travel time, guns wear down after too much use, damage is based on which part of the body you get hit). Some shootouts end with a classic quick-draw duel between you and the last enemy. The fistfights are a pain in higher difficulties, though.

I only encountered two bugs during my playthrough, and after simply restarting the last checkpoint they never returned to bug me.

Voice acting is actually good. I finished the game in just 8 hours, but I was hooked until the end because the storytelling was actually very mature.

Props to the devs for really putting an effort in making me feel like I was a gunslinging warrior in a Western movie.
