The game's pants-on-head bizarre sense of "humor" (if you can even call it that) reared its ugly head in and completely turned me and my friend off from this, to the point that we refuse to acknowledge it.

A game so wonderful, it would actually be a disservice to tell people what makes it so good (especially in light of the fact that people have expressed they would have preferred to play through without knowing anything beforehand).

If there's any aspects that I can say without spoiling the game, it would be that the writing is humorous, the music is exceptional, and the developer went above and beyond in anticipating what players would do. I'm afraid that latter fact alone has already revealed too much but you'll be impressed regardless.
