Rusted Warfare may not excel when it comes to graphics, sound, or design, but the gameplay is great and the overall experience is very charming. I've gotten way more enjoyment out of this €5 game than many AAA titles.

I can't recommend this game simply because there isn't an option to save states (only "save & exit"). Losing after several hours and being forced to start from scratch isn't fun. I know the argument is "git gud", but in the end the question is if I recommend the game - and I can't do that. Use your time on something else.

Otherwise a neat game.

Got 8-bit Hordes with the 8-bit Armies redeem code to see if it was any better than 8-bit Armies, and it wasn't.

I love RTS games but I can't recommend this one. It is basically a Command and Conquer remake, but unfortunately including all the bad things as well. RTS game design has improved since the 1990's, so there is no reason to stick to that formula.

Here are my annoyances that likely never will be patched:
- Harvesters have a lot of health and can kill infantry units as if they were ants
- You can only build one building at a time, and you can't queue them
- You can only build one unit of each type at a time, which means that if you've queued a number of units and change your mind, you need to tediously right-click multiple times to reset the building queue to insert the unit you wanted
- You need to build power plants as upkeep. This is fine, except the "energy meter" is very hard to read and slows you down a lot (for instance, can you afford a +50 power building if your power is at 1125 / 1200? Why can't this be +2 usage of 45/48 instead?)
- Defense turrets have the same sight and range as your best anti-defense units
- Almost all of the single-player missions are on a clock, so constant stress factor
- Super weapons can be launched anywhere on the map by just clicking. This was a problem in C&C as well and fixed by Blizzard in Starcraft 1. I don't understand why you would go back to the old design.

8-bit Armies is not as cool as C&C and Red Alert were, and fails to live up to the game design of every RTS released thereafter.

Everything in this game is fine, except it's quite difficult to get to the end without grinding a lot. And by "a lot" I mean A LOT. The game has the mechanic of Rogue Legacy in the sense that you get boosts between runs, but in order to get a boost you need to play for 20-30 minutes. Sometimes you don't even get enough points to get a boost, and when you do, it's pretty much insignificant.

In the end I used cheat engine to make my way to see the end of the game, and that just reset everything as in Binding of Isaac.

Though not a bad game, I'm selecting "Not Recommended" since there are so many better things on Steam to spend your time on.

There's a lot of repetitive grinding to get gold to beat the next challenge. The UI is terrible, very hard to compare units, hard to see what stats they have, and you have to switch between different windows (or write down on a piece of paper) which units that you have in your battle setup.

This game is very nicely designed with a lot of cool ideas. It's also funny, while it gives you a metaphorical middle finger, and should definitely be experienced.

I messed up my save game, though :(

This game is beautiful and educational, so it saddens me that I can't recommend it to others. The gameplay is mediocre and the controls are bad, especially the bola mechanic.
