Read this first, then this game becomes a recommend. The below is technically spoilers, but man it shouldn't be. Basically, they strongly tell you to read the manual, but they omit commands in the manual (apparently they're in the Chinese manual). There's a command, called gen:

gen P R/I R/I

Translates to:

mov P 100
slp R/I # first R/I
mov P 0
slp R/I # second R/I

Yeah, so it's basically a command that runs 4 commands as 1 command. It generates a pulse for a given duration then sets it to 0 for a given duration. When you just start the game, and you play a few puzzles and see your friends who've had this game solve it in way fewer commands with way less power and you bang your head against a wall for hours, this is why. They tell you to RTFM, then give you an incomplete manual.

Apparently you learn these commands later via emails. So you can then go back and perfect your previous things because suddenly you have a new command. I sort of wish they didn't even include this command, as it's actually not needed; your program just gets longer. But if they include a command in the language, the manual (which they heavily stress that you should read), should include all commands.

I'm mainly just frustrated at the hours I just spent trying to figure it out, but nothing I could have done would have made my solution shorter. It was literally impossible because they gave incomplete information.

A very casual MMO.

The storyline is mostly cutscenes. The best way to do those is to just watch a YouTube video that compiles them and then skip through the actual ones. So it's no FFXIV as far as story goes.

Gameplay though, it's pretty good. You can do basically everything without spending any real money, though I found it worthwhile to at least upgrade inventory and storage space. The game loop is fun, and the hourly urgent quests and daily missions give you something to do every day. There's a lot of different classes that lets you try out different game styles. Like FFXIV, it has a subclass system which I like. You can gain some of the benefits of other classes while on your main.

The augment system for weapons and armor is both confusing, and way too much based on RNG. Augments are basically small markers on your weapons that give you bonuses or minor abilities. You can have up to 8 on a weapon. The chances of transfers succeeding is low. Even with a 95% probability, I still seem to see it failing pretty often. Making an ideal weapon without one of the helper item would take a TON of resources and time; and still always have a failure chance. I think that system could have just been better.

Since this is an older MMO that's new in the US, progression is super fast. Daily rewards of gold tickets that let you do a 10 min battle for at least 1-2 levels worth of experience along with a lot of other rewards means you're never low level for long. I have all classes at at least level 50, and I have no idea how to play most of them. The first 70 levels are basically just learning your class. Hopefully New Genesis will pace things better.

They definitely fixed partying compared to most MMOs. In most MMOs, experience from enemies is split among all players involved. Meaning being in a party gives you a sort of exp penalty that you have to overcome with teamwork. It makes exp gain in a party only slightly faster, or sometimes slower, than solo. Not so in PSO2. You gain the same exp from a monster as a solo as you do with a full multi-party of 12. In fact, if you are in a party, you gain an exp buff for every party member. So a full party you'll actually gain 40% more exp than solo. Very good at encouraging partying. More games should give exp buffs when in a party.

It's not perfect, but it's fun. I feel like I can just jump in for a few missions and have a good time. I'd recommend trying it out, it's free anyway.

ok, I've finished the Hollow Area main storyline (though not all of the possible area events/quests) and am on Floor 90 of the actual castle. This game is good, but it does take getting a few things to really shine; and also realization of what the focus is.

While you can go clear floors 76-100, that part seems really sort of secondary to the hollow area. It's mostly just to open up story bits with little cutscenes with all of the girls, but otherwise the actual levels are fairly unremarkable. I've not gotten to the top yet, so I'm not sure if the story changes up more closer to the top, but that's what I've noticed so far.

The hollow area however, is a bit different. That has an actual story that takes a while to get to, but is pretty neat. It's also the more traditional JRPG format of going through areas, performing quests, and unlocking new areas. You can also perform these implementations by doing challenges across hollow quests, a few of which are remarkably important to the enjoyment of the game, which I'll get to later. The skill system is neat, and I learned that it encourages you trying out new weapons as you gain skill points faster by gaining skill in a weapon. There's a ton of secondary skills that do things like heal you, buff you, debuff the enemy.. etc. Incredibly useful as you unlock them and adds a lot more flavor and challenge to the game. Combat at first is pretty straight forward and not super exciting, but it gets way way better once you unlock the Original Skill System (OSS).

I'd say that the OSS is probably the biggest problem. Mainly in that, it's somewhat hard to unlock and recording them sucks. You have to go through and do several of those implementations, which includes performing sword skills a certain number of times in hollow missions. So it's a bit of a grind to just unlock it, but for real enjoyment of the game, it's probably the most important thing to do. Normally in the game, you can perform a sword skill, but there's a big delay at the end of the animation that is sort of annoying. With OSS, you can record chains of skills together that involves timing button presses to a purple spark that appears on your character. It makes combat more interactive, faster, and does more damage. Unfortunately, besides just the grind to unlock, you also have to record them. Recording them is going to a test area and performing skills in whatever order you want them to be used in out in the field. The problem is, the timing is incredibly tight; basically down to about 100ms window for each press. This is for recording them only though, when you're playing it's way more generous and forgiving.

I found the best way to enjoy OSS was to just figure out what the delay was, and program a macro to press the buttons at the right time just for the recording step. Using them is great, but this recording thing should not be as hard as it is. I recommend macros and cheating through that.

If you stick through getting OSS though and recording some chains, the gameplay is a lot more rewarding. The storyline for the hollow area is fun, and I like the thought-provoking concepts it presents. The harem cutscenes can be a groan at times, but some are fun and funny. Gaining materials to enchant or make new weapons is a bit of a grind, so I could see not wanting to get too far into it unless you really like grinding.

As a fan of the series, I've greatly enjoyed this game and gotten a lot out of my 100+ hours. If you never unlock OSS, you'll have less fun I think. It's not really too terribly hard to do, but it's not as fun as I would have liked. Overall, I'm glad I've played it and looking forward to other SAO games.

Basically the best FPS game in VR that I've played. The story is ok, nothing ground breaking, but the gameplay is generally very good for a VR FPS. I admit some of the duck and cover could use some work, but if you have a VR headset and you don't have this game, you owe it to yourself to pick it up.

This game has an official Discord channel referenced in the game which is incredibly helpful for learning it.

The main thing to know, is that beyond the normal way each piece moves in normal chess, they now all have additional movement in 2 more dimensions (to the past in the current timeline or at the same point in time on a different timeline) that generally mimic their standard movement options.

I'm not an expert, but it seems like the easiest way to win is to checkmate a king in the past as a past boardstate can't directly be altered, only split. So the only way to protect against that is to protect the spaces that a piece could go to threaten a past king.. which is sort of like what you do in normal chess, just in more dimensions so it's stupidly complex (but in a good way).

Also, reading moves ahead is important in normal chess, but here it's so much more challenging as you have to not only read your opponents possible moves, but also where pieces will be in other timelines assuming they are in a timeline that's further along than the board you are playing. And splitting timelines means you might be playing like 10 games of chess simultaneously trying to checkmate just one of the kings.

Good game for a quick break from leisure.

A game that was 7 years in the making before it's actual release, it's stupid good.

Basically if you want to forget how time works and suddenly realize it's light outside after having started playing in the evening, get this game. It's more addicting than heroin. Actually, I think you might need to use heroin as a ramp down drug to just pull yourself away from Factorio.

Having nastalgia for the original Doom, this game reflects the spirit while giving something new. I actually liked Dom 3, but this one is a much better sequal to the originals. It's fast paced, gory, and very satisfying to play. It actually has a story that, like the original, doesn't really matter that much but keeps you engaged as you kill demons. This is pretty much now my go-to game of choice when I'm having a really bad day and need things to explode and die. Highly recommended.

I've been playing this game a bunch recently and I'm finding it feels more like Sim City than the current Sim City that's out there. The areas are larger and you can just do more. For instance, all roads and rail can be raised or lowered (becoming tunnles or bridges) easily. You can make complex transportation networks with this. The game also deals with noise pollution along with regular pollution, and there's actually ways of making a sustainable city using green energy and limited pollution (though trash still becomes a major problem).

I like the green energy isn't really more expensive than the dirty varieties, you just need more of it often. The pace of unlocking stuff is pretty good, and there's a decent amount of things to add variety to your city to. I haven't used the steam workshop stuff yet, but I imagine mods there will do even more in that regard.

Other than an ocassional building burning down (which doesn't seem to really spread), there's not much in the way of disasters like Sim City. So no Godzilla or major natural events that I've run into so far. I'm ok with this because I often want to just make a good city and not really destroy it, but I could see some people missing that aspect.

A freestyle falling game where you're trying to score points by getting close to (but not running into) buildings. There's some interesting hidden things in some of the levels that you can try to collect, and the speed and difficulty increases as you unlock more levels. It's sort of mindless and you can zone out while playing. I wouldn't call it a stellar game, but if you have a few minutes to waste then this can work well enough.

This game is reminicent of AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. The mechanics are almost identical except there's no landing needing to be done at the end of a level. The levels can be generated based on any MP3 you have in your collection, so you can basically fly through your music. The first few levels were pretty slow going and merely ok. For a fluke I tried out one of the last levels (since they're all unlocked at the beginning) and it was much faster and more interesting. I actually had to deal with some quick thinking that gets you into a sort of zone.

Overall I would say it's an ok casual game, but more of something mindless to do than a game to really engage in. I'll put it into my casual bin, but I probably won't play it very often.
