Without the expansions, Cities Skylines is a solid entry into the city builder genre - coming from a tiny studio, it manages to compete well enough with other games of its kind.

But If you consider all the content and features added by the expansions AND the incredibly plentiful and easy to implement modded content, it is hands down the best city building game available. Yes, it surpasses even Simcity 4! (take off those rose coloured glasses y'all – SC4 lacks considerable depth and the 2D isometric system is limiting) (I still love SC4 tho!)

The single downside to this game is just how contemporary it is – meaning it performs well enough on modern computers but can grind to a halt on older systems or on cities that exceed 100,000 population.

I absolutely recommend getting the game - and I recommend checking out the DLCs in detail, considering which one's you are interested in. It's quite an investment to get them all at once, and not all the expansions are of equal quality and scope.
I consider After Dark, Mass Transit, Parklife and Industries to be the most worth checking out.
