Shashingo matches my mental learning methods so well!
My Japanese knowledge consists of a year long streak in Duolingo and a few other self-taught resources. While I have found that app good for building the mental connections for sentence structure and repetition, Shashingo has been an excellent way for me to simulate environmental immersion and really cement in Kanji beyond the boundaries of Duolingo's specific repeating sentences and tests.

The act of looking around in a 3D explorable area for a word, and receiving affirmation if I was correct on what that word was correct really works for me. Flashcards by themselves, in different learning environments, I've found make me complacent and I commit to memory the single image that is on the flashcard rather than the broader context of that image representing a thing that exits space.

I've seen people say that you can run around the entire available area in 2-3 minutes which is true, but doesn't follow the games objectives at all. It takes far longer (from 30mins to 1hr) to actually navigate the map with everything photographed. There's a lot to find.

I've been able to connect certain characters between words that are in the game, and also words I have learned elsewhere with a same character. With 'Quiz Mode' it does an excellent job of making me think back to these connections if I am having difficulty immediately conjuring up what a word is.

It's effectiveness as a learning tool can make it go by quickly. Personally I like to slow burn-in my knowledge so I made sure to pace myself and get the most out of gradually building up the amount of items I have to remember in the game. The supplemental material like the in-game text book and vocabulary add even more to go through which is great!

Really enjoyed the game! I was a big fan of the Midtown Madness series and this game brought back the mulitplayer gametypes that were my favorite part of the series. Being not a brilliant virtual driver the Shift mechanism keeps the multiplayer at a level playing field.

I would reccomend it to everyone! Enjoyable tfor all.
