Great classic fighting game!

Gameplay

The gameplay is very basic and gets complex overtime. You start by doing simple combos like a> b> c to then proced to to do more advanced stuff. Its important to say that this game is totally combo heavy, I mean, there is little space to zoning and anti-air, like you usually do in Street Fighter.

Characters

There is a large roster of character, each one more unique than the other. Some might be too anime-esque for you taste, but there are some with a more westernized style that you might like. But, as a whole, the game has definitely and anime feeeling.

Game Modes

There is a variety of game modes, like Arcade, Training, Story and others, which I think is enought to compensate for the almost dead online comunity.

Overal, its a pretty solid and classic game that every fan of fighting game in general should have in his/her library.

I give it 4.0/5.0

Boring and Repetitive As Fʊck

First the good things: Great Pixel art, very good and responsive controls, so many skills and rpg system to mess around but... thats it.

The whole game you spend basically locked inside a close space with waves of monsters spawning to get you, then after some boring griding, theres a boss. And then the circle goes on and on... Its like they took of all that was fun on Diablo and left only the boring griding shɪt.
Cant play the game for more than 15 minutes after getting bored to death by how repetitive it is.
Go play Diablo or Path of Exile instead.

I Rate it 2.0/5.0

Unleash the darkness and kill your foes with tentacles... Hm, kinky.

The Darkness II is a 3rd person shooter based on the comics from the 90ties. You play as Jack Estacado, a mafia chief who is possessed by an entity known as "The Darkness", which gives you super powers but makes you follow its will.

Gameplay

As a single player FPS you will be shooting hordes of enemies with your guns. You got many guns such as shotguns, assault rifles, pistols, revolvers... You also got a pair of demoniac tentacles that can slice enemies and do crazy stuff, like throwing objects and performing some "fatalities" on the enemies. You dont have regenerative health or medickits, to restore health you need to use your tentacles to literaly eat the heart of dead enemies. Also to recover ammo just grab the gun of a dead enemy. Gameplay is blazing fast: you will be surrounded by enemies and will start shooting like crazy and chopping them off with you tentacles. Game is very gory and violent, not recommended for the faint of heart...

Story

Trying to avoid spoilers here. Basically you have some evil guys who want to take the "Darkness" from you and use it for their own evil pourposes. The Darkness wants to overcome the threat and uses the souls of your dead girlfriend Jenny as a way to persuade you into obeying it. The story is really well constructed and has some good plot twists near the end. I mean, the game gives you a lot more than just enemies to shoot, it gives a good and and entertaining dark comic book time.

I Rate it 3.8/5.0, its good, but kinda repetitive with the infinite hordes of the same mobs you fight over and over...

Unfunny garbage suffice to describe this game.
Some drunk devs thought it would be funny to make a game were your objective is supposed to literaly pɪss everywhere to make things "darker"? Got the pun? Well I didnt.
I rate it 0.5/5.0, pure garbage.

Be a Pixelized Serial Killer!
Thats whats this game is all about.

Story

The story is quite simple: you are just some random psycho trying to get some sleep, but it's already 3am and your neighbours are having a lound party... So, you pick up your sharp knife and try to silence those annoying pricks. After certifying that they are all dead and the police didn't catch you, you might go home and finally get some sleep.

Art Style

This is an indie game that purposely choose to have low res pixelized art, which fits perfectly with the retro dance music in the background. Not only the pixels look good, but it's also funny to see some low res gore that the game provides you

Difficulty

The game is fairly difficult, you can't just go around stabbing people at random or you might get caught by the police and you'll have to start the level all over again, which is annoying. Usually you have to get people who are alone and then kill them and hide their bodies. To kill large groups of people you can use stun bombs and other creative devices, and to run from the police you might use secret doors and escape routes hidden on the level. It takes quite a bit of mental work to finish a level killing about 50 people without getting caught.

Overal it's an amazing game

Jotun is an adventure game based on the Norse mythology.

Visuals

The graphics and visuals in this game are stunning, all high res hand made drawings that give a cartoonish and fairy tale atmosphere to the game. In some points during the gameplay, the camera will open wide and get far from your character so you can observe the amazing landscape.

Game Pace

This is kinda odd, but Jotun is not a hack and slash adventure about killing hordes of monsters coming to you. Most of the time you will be exploring the environment and just walking through the landscape. So, I would say that the game is usually very slow paced with peaks of action on the boss fights. Dont get into the game if you dont like to slow down and explore, cause thats what you will be doing most of the time.

Boss Fights

The boss fights are the moments were the action peaks and the game gets intense and challenging. Mosts boss fights are a fight and a puzzle at the same time, were you have to learn and observe the bosses' moves and patterns before attacking. Also, the difficulty degree gets really high on the late bosses. It kinda reminds me of Dark Souls a bit.

Overall impression

My experience with this game was good, I enjoyed in the exploring parts and had a thrill during the boss fights. I just dont recommend you to play this game while you are sleepy, cause the slow paced walking parts and the backgroung music are going to get you down soon. But, overall its a very solid game.

I give it a 3.7/5.0

This game is basically terrible.

CHARACTER CREATION:
It starts in the character creation, you theoreticaly have many options to create your char, but the final result is always the same: if you char is male, then he will end up looking like an Emo band singer; if your char is female, she will end up looking like a street høøker. I mean, all female outfits and armors are slʊtty and unrealistic, its really annoying how this game portraits women. Not to mention the lolly-pædo content...

GAMEPLAY:
Is very simple, just spam da shɪt out of your special abilities on the enemy and then, when the red mark showing the enemy's attack appears on the ground, use your dodge special ability to escape, rinse and repeat. Gets really dull and boring after a short while. The begining quests are also very dumb: go there collect that item, kill that easy enemy down there... all like this.

Feeling sad by writing this review but... After playing some old school shooters like Doom, Quake, Heretic and Hexen 1 itself, I cant recommend this game.

Presentation

The game itself looks and plays great. It runs in an altered Quake 1 engine and is fully 3d, unlike Hexen 1, which, just like Doom, uses 2d sprites for enemies and items. I have no ploblems running this game on my machine (win. 8). The environments and enemies bring a gothic and dark feeling, with great soundtrack that emphasises the overall grim atmosphere that the game has. Just like Hexen 1 you chose a few character classes that have different weapons and use the two types of mana in different ways. Its kind of an attempt to include RPG elements in a shooter.

Puzzles and Problems

Eventhough it looks and plays great, the reason why I dont recommend this game is that its virtually impossible to advance the game without some kind of guide or walkthrough. The shooting and killing is sporadic, and you will spend most of the time trying to solve hundreds of impossible puzzles, that require you to go to a certain location, pick up a hidden item, then teleport to another location, pull that lever... Its not a shooter like Quake, the devs pick up the simple puzzles from Hexen 1 and created something really annoying, that requires you to be constantly looking for answers on the internet as you just cant figure out by yourself using exploration. If you want a good fast paced shooter like Duke Nukem, Quake and Heretic, this game is not for you.

Get Hexen 1, Heretic or Quake instead.

THE BEST KOF EVER! (In my humble opinion, of course)

I dont know, but I fell like my review is going to be biased by the fact that I played a lot of this game back in the days it was released, so its a game very dear to me, and seeing it back here on Steam in this improved version is so amazing!

The Roster

First, you should know that this is not the regular version of KOF 2002, but the Unlimited Match version, which includes tons of extra features. One of them is the expanded roster, which includes not only the original KOF2002 chars, but also each and every char from KOF 99 to KOF 2002. So, chars like Kasumi, Heidern, Shingo and many others were add to the cast, making the character selection screeen became HUGE!

The Gameplay

The gameplay of a Kof game is basically a faster and furious version of Street Fighter. Its very combo heavy and demands a lot of practice from the player. So be prepared to spend a lot of time in the training mode practicing your set ups and combos, because the players you will find online do it a lot. Also, as I said before, this version contains aditional features, which are some new moves and specials for many chars, so it will surprise the kof veterans a bit, in a good way.

The Online Play

The whole point of a fighting game in the era of the internet is to play online, as most local arcades have closed down. So Kof 2002 UM includes an online play feature, with both Player Matches (casual) and Ranked Matches. But here is the thing: there are only a few players online and you will only find random online fighters on the weekends. Most of the online play in this game is made via your own friend list. That is: you add people from your country our nearby countries and, when they are online, you ask them to play with you. Thats how the online play has been working for the kof games here on Steam. ITS NOT DEAD, it just works the way I described.

Final Veredict

Overall its a pretty solid fighting game made for those who are really into the genre and like a fast paced fighter. Its also a classic game from the arcade era and playing it might be very nostalgic to some (like me). This Unlimited Match version actually improves the game a lot by adding new features like more chars, moves and the online mode, thus making the game even better.

I rate it 9.0 / 10.0

Some good mix between Mortal Kombat games and DC Comics story here.
My overall impression is that this game is pretty good, much better than most NetherRealm games Ive played, maybe because of the appeal that the comics superheroes have in old schoolers like me.
The fighting mechanics are basic Mortal Kombat-esque, which means you have to imput back, back + punch to perform a fireball and so on. A few Street Fighter stuff was add, for example: you press back to block (there is no block button) and you can set the special attacks to hadouken like motions, a-la Street Fighter. There also some new mechanics, like the stage interactions (really overpowered), armour moves, fireball combos e many others.
Lets go to some pros and cons:
Pros:
- Very Good and Catchy Story Mode, with a very good comic book plot. The ending is kinda predictable, but its good nevertheless.
- Very good cast, with and interesting selection os DC comics classic heroes and villains, like Batman, Superman, Joker, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Lobo, Zod, etc...
- Some good and easy to perform combos, that work well if you are a gamepad user, like me. Seems like the developers actually though about us, gamepad guys!
- Some chars have some really interesting alternate outfits, like the Red Son (communist superman), Batman Beyond, General Zod, from the Man of Steel movie, etc..

Cons:
- Seems like no one actually plays this game online, the community is small and its hard to find people to play againts online, which is a mojor problem for a fighting game.
- The cast is good and large, but some chars are just too strong (Superman) and others are very weak (Bane). Its really umbalanced.
- The zoning/fireball game of some character is too strong and broken and some battles are basically who spams fireballs faster. It makes chars without fireballs completelly unplayable.
- Character with superstrength (Superman, Wonder Woman) can interact with the environment to throw cars and objects on others to deal big damage, while non super chars (Batman, Flash) cant do it at all. The stage interactions are really unbalanced and broken towards super strength chars.

In a general way, its a good game. I Rate it 3.8/ 5.0.
