i am a huge fan of making devices & contraptions and this game executes that perfectly. switching between the micro and macro build modes really makes me feel like i am designing both the machine and its computer chips, which other factory games don't quite capture. the pacing is also spot on - you're encouraged to puzzle out future deliveries while waiting for the current one to complete, so you rarely have to sit around watching resources deliver. the blueprint system is incredibly easy to use, too, and i have had an absolute blast optimizing modules for both function and aesthetic. the controls are tight and intuitive, and once you've gotten the hang of it construction is a breeze. the focus is entirely on design and planning, which leaves you an insane amount of room to take your time and experiment. i truly cannot wait for more updates!

bones go up :)

tons of ways to flavor your runs and customize the RNG, and each class has unique perks that help make your choices matter a lot more. there's way more game in here than the price implies!

I came across this while looking for base building sims, and it checked every single box on my list - runs are faster paced than most other builders, your randomized effects are very plainly communicated (at a glance, even!), the tutorial and early game do a great job of introducing core mechanics, you steadily unlock new buildings and features as you make meta progress, and you are rewarded for being flexible inside each run instead of relying on a single cookie-cutter strategy. I also really enjoy the art style and watching my little guys doing their tasks. :)

the dogs... they wobble so much...!

Wonderful and relaxing game, reminiscent of old pet sims from the Windows 95-98 era. You can pet, feed, play with, breed, and even teach them to do stuff by rewarding or scolding them. There's also a few options that let you adjust things like how fast the dogs age and whether or not they pass away, so you can tailor the pacing of the sim however you like.

The bulk of it, though, is experimenting with the genetics system. There's a codex to fill in for which foods have what effects on the dogs and it greatly rewards trying out everything you unlock. In-game achievements do give you hints about what is possible, but it's really fun to mix and match characteristics and wind up with something completely unexpected!

This game is simply delightful. I find planning out factory layouts to be very relaxing, almost meditative, and watching all the parts flow through a newly built production line is... well, satisfying. You are never pressured to build faster, or bigger, or better - it's all up to you and how you want to pace yourself. I was also pleased to find that the combat (and death) is a lot less punishing than the initial trailers made it out to be. Highly recommended if you at all like logistics, resource management sims, research trees, exploring, or just sitting idly and watching your hard work pay off.

The only free-to-play game where I've tossed in more than just a few dollars, solely because I'd like to give the devs money for even a fraction of the time I've spent playing this game. The fluid action, beautiful graphics, and constant stream of updates is a wonderful bonus.

I've heard people describe it as a sort of poor man's Desitny on PC, which isn't completely inaccurate but doesn't quite describe what the game actually is. It's focused on fast-paced third person action, and instead of a large open world you have various missions in different level zones to complete. You earn resources and rank up, progressively unlocking more and more equipment and new zones. It was a lot to take in before they rearranged the world map and pacing, but it's a lot more consistent and straightforward than it used to be. There's also a lot of timed alerts and other events that rotate around, cycling a lot of content and providing a lot of extra stuff to just DO if you hit a wall in terms of progression. They have also been much more focused on getting cinematics and lore into the game, such as the recent War Within update, which is something that the game has been lacking for a long time.

Overall, the controls are tight and work really well. The parkour is a lot more responsive and easier to use than other games I've played, keeping up with the fast pacing of the combat. There is incredible depth to the possible customization you can do for your characters and weapons, both for their abilities and their appearance, that rewards experimenting with and ranking up the equipment you like instead of what's 'strong'. For example, the gun I've most recently been messing around with shoots low-damage chain lightning but is capable of hitting multiple targets at once with a 100% chance at an excessively high critical multiplier. There are other weapons better suited for the task, but it's a lot of fun to just build something goofy.

There's a few improvements that could be made to help certain characters feel less outclassed by others and to improve the general grind (which is a lot of finding resources, waiting real time to build something, leveling it, not liking it, then selling it to make room for new items), but these sorts of things are being addressed very consistently. They're actively working on tweaking abilities so each character can contribute to a squad without any one of them seeming like an absolute requirement, and the big content update from over the summer drastically improved endgame grinding by altering how loot rolling is done for rare equipment only obtainable from certain missions.

The community is one of the best I've been a part of, and are actively in contact with devs - there's weekly dev streams, along with frequent outreach and participation on the forums (both on the game's site, the subreddit, and here). The update this month has also drawn a lot people back into the game, so now's an excellent time to pick it up and play with people.

It's exaclty what I wanted - more weapons, more excellent writing, and more overall insanity.

The powers are greatly improved over Saint's Row IV, with way less to do between collecting all of them (sprint and flight are given to you right as you start the game, and the other four are gotten through basically the next mission). I found myself switching between them much more often than I did in the previous game, too. Flying around the city is fun, sprinting around the city is hilarious (cars have little durability and will explode if you barely touch them), and there are lots of weird buildings to parkour all over.

I kind of wish there were more activities to do, or at least a way to repeat completed objectives once you finish the main story. You've got Hellblazing (Trailblazing), Fraud, and Salvation (flying around catching bodies as they fall into Hell), but everything else is a one-time deal and that leaves little to do once you've completed taking over the city. There also doesn't seem to be any hourly income, making money a hard thing to come by once you've cleared everything.

I can definitely see how this is a sort of self-contained expansion, and I'm really glad they released it as its own game rather than be a DLC for Saint's Row IV. It is its own thing, really.
