I was born to parents who were both army physicians. Due to their frequent reassignments, i grew up in many different cities in India, as well as spending a few years in the United States. Before starting my acting career, i gained fame after winning the Miss India and Miss World titles in 2000. During her career, i has received one National Film Award and four Filmfare Awards.
Making my acting debut with the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan, Chopra then made her Bollywood debut with The Hero in 2003. i followed that with the hit Andaaz, for which i won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. i subsequently earned critical acclaim for her performance in Aitraaz (2004), and appeared in the commercially successful projects Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Krrish (2006) and Don (2006). The year 2008 marked the beginning of a new phase in my career, as my portrayal of a troubled model in the film Fashion earned my the National Film Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
