Early Access Review
TLDR: Buy the game. You will love it. Bring fresh pants.

I began playing "The Forest" (The progenitor to this game) not too long after it came out in 2015. I liked it at launch but they made massive improvements over the years that turned it into one of my favorite games of all time.

Now enter Sons Of The Forest...

They very clearly took everything they learned in the development of The Forest and upped themselves 100 fold to create an insanely fun and terrifying game. IT works very well and looks great at launch and what bugs are there are almost entirely small graphical oversights. (good luck finding them)

-The polish definitely shows while exploring the terrain and cave environments. It's simply beautiful to immerse yourself in.

-Then comes nightfall... I'm not usually one to jump at games but from the first shrill scream in the night as "something" comes barreling at me out of the darkness, I very nearly needed a new set of pants and a new chair. Between trying to build in the dark so you have a place to put all your extra stuff and attempting to navigate through the darkest caves to hopefully find that one item you need to progress, It's an absolute thrill ride and you will probably die. A lot. But in a fun way. Mostly.

-The story line is quite good if you're paying attention. There's quite a lot of hidden story items to find that really enhance whats going on and if you don't take a second to check out whats on that random scrap of paper that skeleton is holding, you may be asking yourself more questions than most by the end of the game. Just read everything you pick up as most of the story is told silently.

- On to the end. (I'll try not to spoil much but this is an early access game and i think it needs improvement so stop reading here if you haven't finished the game yet).

I wasn't let down but I did find myself wanting. The way the story unfolds is great and I love the cut scene that definitely opes up some awesome possibilities. BUUUT, I feel there could be a little more of a challenge in respect to the lead up (or down I guess since it's in a cave) to getting to that final cut scene, especially if you're like me and mostly saved all your ammo for "the final boss". I personally ended up EXTREMELY over prepared and I beat the game in 17 hours, solo, so I didn't exactly spend all the time I could stocking up. Mostly searching for the items I needed to progress. For me, It was just kinda boring after you go through the bathroom to the point of the cut scene because you've been doing that same thing for half the game. Just mildly harder. I think a massive opportunity was missed by not incorporating the father and son more into the endgame and the lack of a special boss or at least something that sets it apart from the rest of the caves makes it feel rushed to me. I'm still quite happy with the result, I just think there's room for improvement on the most crucial aspect of the game (in my opinion).

All in all, amazing game and I can't wait to play it with friends just like we did The Forest.

Fantastic survival game. The Dev's have put a massive amount of work into this game and it really shows. I've been playing this game since day 1 and the contrast from then and now is night and day. Great story, great game play, great survival aspects, pretty darn good crafting, and a very interesting (INCLUDED) DLC.

Absolutely hate the leches.....
