Nominated for 'Best Game You Suck At' because it's, well, frankly true. This game has improved my poker skills, but I'm not about to sit down at a table at a casino anytime soon.

This game feels damn near impossible. I've only 'won' once. Once!
But I keep going back.
Because I might get a good draw *next hand*.

It is not a difficult game nor a long one, but it is a good ride. The humor inserted now and then does a lot to levy the heaviness that any Lovecraftian story will have.

There is great reward in investigating every little thing rather than just rushing through. It took me just shy of 13 hours to finish the game *and* go back to get the achievements I missed initially. That's not bad, all told. And I'm someone who generally hates going back and redoing story elements and cut scenes. Not the case here.

Devcats do one thing and they do it well: relaxing (dare I say *cozy*) games that are visually appealing and heartwarming. You don't need to love cats to play (though it helps). Find the hidden X games aren't difficult and there are several examples on Steam, but no other gives back to rescue cats and encourages adoption of rescues.

There's not much to say, no, but the game is worth your time especially since it's free.

I am very much enjoying the game. The lack of a sense of urgency is, in my opinion, a good thing. I don't feel pressured to just stick to the main quest: I can lark off following threads and side-quests as long as I want. That balance, in a way, makes it feel more like the books where things unfurl over time and throughout the school year. It's not non-stop, near-death experiences (though there are quite a few of those). I love the quests to help out other students as they feel more like people than just set pieces -- even passing them again later in the halls, hearing them talk about what you did together to others.

My main complaint is that it's obvious this game was optimized for consoles. I exceed the recommended system specs but encounter so many FPS issues that it becomes a bit frustrating from time to time.

I play a lot of indie games, but I don't necessarily return to them. Many will occupy me for an hour or two and then I'll quickly forget them as I move onto something else. Strange Horticulture has become a game I'll return to when I have a few minutes here and there. It's not a game I necessarily even need to dive into for hours on end: even just playing for fifteen, twenty minutes can feel immensely satisfying.

I am terrible at this game. I don't want to be. If my years of Civilization are anything to say: I shouldn't be.
But I am.

However, the important thing to point out is that *I don't mind that I am bad at it*. There are a lot of things that Humankind does that I feel improves it over the Civilization games: factors that set it apart and things wherein I go wow, I wish Civ had this all along. I really enjoy that for each era, you get to select a new (time period suitable) civilization to represent you. It allows for gameplay to shift and adjust and it allows you to pivot based on what has happened during the game (and to avoid, say, the weirdness of Mayans in the modern era). I love the Civis to specify how my civilization works. I love how religion sort of naturally extends and expands through the world (though I don't feel like it's very intuitive).

Overall, I think this is a great game and as they finetune it over the coming months it'll be even better.

The most surprising thing about this game, I think, is that it's as replayable as it is.

Part of the replayability comes from playing with different groups of people. Part of it comes from giving yourself challenges (only Intermediate or Amateur options? Pick an Amateur and do the hunt with nothing but the base tools!). Part of it comes from sometimes just being terrible at the game.

For being made by a single person, this game is absolutely astounding.
Thumbs up if you, too, left your basketball score on 69.

I'm terrible at it, but I still love playing it.
Not many games that I can say that about.

A little bit Darkest Dungeon, a little big Diablo, with a dash (okay more than a dash) of CCG for flavor. The Cook approves.

While this is definitely a rogue-like, it's not an annoyingly difficult one (unless you choose that difficulty you masochist). It's a fun game that doesn't demand all of your attention. Each time you delve into a new layer of the dungeons, you can choose (thanks to the 'Flexiscope) the size and a rough timeframe of how long it'll take. Only got twenty minutes? Well, good news! There's a dungeon for you. The game will even give you an estimate of how long a boss level will take before you dive in. How many games do that? Can't say I've encountered any before and it's pretty swell. (Mind, it does pause when the window is out of focus)

The card mechanic is easy to pick up and understand. The tutorial is unobtrusive. The story isn't stellar or ground breaking, but I can forgive it that for the sake of the rest. Especially when we consider the art. The art is great. It's a gorgeous game. The 'paper' style is done so well and it carries well. Play it if only for the cute folds, the little flames when things ae burning.

Or, you know, the coin in poop. Because you know you can't resist picking up coins in games, even when covered in poo.
