Pretty enjoyable roguelike deckbuilder game where you must manage both the actions of yourself and enemies. While the creature designs and "monster catcher" aesthetic may make people assume the combat is like Pokemon, its combat is more similar in vibe to Fossil Fighters (The leader mechanic and position swapping).

As of the time of writing, my only main complaints are:

  • Lack of "true random" monster choices. Each run lets you choose a faction/pool of monsters to use, with only one(?) encounter type potentially offering external ones. I think "beating" the game with all factions once should allow for this option to be unlocked (or you could unlock it by unlocking all chimeras)

  • Run pacing feels a little short, I think an addition of one more island before the final one (or making the islands slightly larger in general) would be appreciated, as by the time you round out a build the run is usually over.

I do hope that the devs address these in the future, and even if they don't, I've enjoyed my experience so far.

Can't believe they made a fighting game with only one move.

West of Loathing is a Western-style RPG that retains much of the humor of it's predecessor, West of Loathing. The artstyle is black and white stick figures, but in my opinion, it adds to the charm of the game.

Pros:
- Lots of game content, took me about ~9 hours to try to finish a run 100%, and still didn't succeed in doing so.
- Humor that references pop culture and occasionally makes fun of itself.
- Several different routes and classes.
- You can fight the skeleton of David Barry.

Cons:
- Some areas may take several in-game days to complete, most notably Ghostwood.
- Auto-leveling option claims to create a balanced character, but they end up drastically underpowered (thankfully, the game suggests turning it off after the tutorial).

Ah, this game, one of my first games on steam, but, nostalgia won't interfere with an honest review.
Tales From Space...yeah, I'm not gonna say the whole title, I'll just use TFS, is a platformer game made by DrinkBoxStudios, in it you control a Blob, who, after seeing the other blobs experimented on, escapes and decides to absorb everything.

One of the interesting mechanics of this game is your size, to progress, you need to be large enough to eat corks blocking your path, you do this by absorbing objects that you CAN absorb at your current size, and this may let you become large enough to absorb bigger objects. This setup sometimes encourages you to explore, and sometimes you may have to solve a small puzzle to get stuff to absorb.

This game does have challenges though, you may have to avoid being hit by Army helicopters or tanks, or you may have to precariously avoid spikes, or you may sometimes have to outrun lasers, while performing other tasks, such as collecting objects to absorb or rotating something to pass.

Another mechanic are the powers, you can have Rocket Boosts, which offer air mobility, sometimes to collect out of reach items or escape a laser. You also have magnetism, which helps you attach to surfaces and avoid obstacles. Then you have telekenesis, which let's you open up paths, move objects, or launch yourself.

The music in this game kinda gave me a Rayman Origins feel at times, I have no idea why, but it was enjoyable to listen to. The graphics vary in style, one minute, you can go from an 80's/90's style to a pixellated style.

The game overall is kinda short, even if you try to get all the achievements and 100% the game. This game overall gets a 9/10, the only part that could be improved is making the game a bit longer.
