Simple and cozy little game. Some parts such as graphics and furniture choices can be improved but it's still early and I enjoyed playing nonetheless. Looking forward to see where this game goes 👍

A true shame.

Among Trees is a truly beautiful game. The developers really nailed the look and style they were going for. It's one of the most unique looking games that I've ever seen. The first 10 minutes of play was pretty great. Exploring your surroundings, walking around the environment, taking in the overall aesthetic of the game was nice. Upgrading your cabin, discovering new plants, and crafting stuff was all pretty great, at first...

However, as the game goes on, these menial tasks start to become really repetitive and tedious. Seeing that I need 38 planks to upgrade one part of my cabin is a huge demotivator to keep playing. Especially with the limited inventory space, storage space, and the fact that trees no matter how large will always only drop 3 planks. If this game had a multiplayer or co-op mode things would be different, but as it stands, you require a great deal of patience and time if you wish to progress this game far. Since your cabin upgrades are pre-set, you can't really customize your cabin much either. You can't build other structures outside your cabin, you can't build extra rooms on top of the game's given cabin expansions, you can't choose where your storage goes, you can't even create more storage should you want more. You can't upgrade your character's skills or attributes to permanently run faster or have better stamina to traverse the beautiful map. Overall, it's pretty bare bones for a survival game.

But the BIGGEST problem, and the only real reason I'm not going to recommend this game, is the state the game's development is in. It truly saddens me to hear that the developers are essentially abandoning a project with so much potential. I love the smooth and responsive UI, I love the low-poly and beautiful graphics, I love the rich and colorful environment. With a bit of tweaking to the gameplay and with the addition of a few features and more stuff to do, this game could be an actual amazing and complete game. Truly a waste.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is an incredibly unforgiving shooter. If you like hyper-realistic shooters, this will definitely be your go-to game for that. This game has a huge arsenal of weapons and attachments to suit your style, as well as many different maps including night time maps that significantly changes the style of the game. Insurgency is a game that heavily favors camping and patience, so be prepared to check every corner of every room in a building. Still, lots of fun, probably the best realistic shooter in the market.

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- The Prophecy of the Throne
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱▱ 55%

Although I'm rating this a positive, I have really mixed feelings on this game. Especially the story.

As a huge Re:Zero fan, I'll happily take any extra content regarding the series. I was fine with the story for the most part, but I feel like a much more interesting story could have been explored rather than the narrative this game went with. The story overall wasn't "bad", but I just didn't feel as attached to it as the mainline story or the "IF" routes. I would have much preferred an original/adaptation of the darker IF stories, a dating sim , or something that canonically added onto the main story line.

I'll start with the good things:
I love the visual novel art-style, so it's great that the sprites and Live2Ds shared this style. The UI and feel of this visual novel felt really smooth compared to other VNs like Danganronpa. Voice acting was great and characters—Emilia-camp especially—had some cute and funny interactions.

Now, the "not-so-good" things:
Firstly, the story. This game's story was somewhat ruined by the fact that any anime watcher enjoyer would know who the "impostors" were right off the bat. The story also isn't cannon and the OC characters weren't interesting or compelling enough to make me attached to the story. Again, I feel that a story focusing on characters we already know and building more off them would have made a much more interesting story.
It also doesn't help that the antagonists have nothing to do with the Witch's Cult and is instead some random character we have no attachments to, making the story feel superficial with no real stakes. This game introduces some wild concepts like "body reconstruction", and I also wasn't a fan of the powers the Evil Eye Tribe introduced to this world.

That being said, the story does have somewhat clever moments with the death loops, and you do somewhat get to learn more about the personalities of the other Royal Selection Candidates which is nice.

The gameplay design had an interesting idea but somehow still felt basic. Essentially, before a gameplay segment starts, you are able to gather information by talking to random people or interacting with stuff. Gathering information gives you more options on what actions you can do and your plan. During the gameplay segments itself, there are multiple phases. Whenever you move, your "stamina" bar goes down and when it runs out the next phase begins. Each phase, characters will move a certain amount and you can intera- ct.. with... with th... Zzzzzzzzzzzz...

Joking aside, the gameplay was serviceable and decent at times, but could have been done in a more engaging way. The multiple phase format felt slow and removed any sense of urgency, especially in chase sections.

Overall, although I feel super mixed on this game, I still enjoyed it. I just didn't find the story to be very interesting and that was, and still is, my biggest gripe. I just couldn't shake the feeling that a more interesting story could have been told given Re:Zero's world, and that this was a wasted opportunity.

BAD END THEATER
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱ 80%

Incredibly cute and creative game. The art is adorable and fun, the story was interesting and engaging, and the different choices from all 4 perspectives matter and lead to impactful endings. This game really manages to make you feel for these characters and playing through it was just a great time.

The game is pretty short at around the 2 hour mark and after finishing it fully with all endings I was still left wanting more. It's incredible that such a short game was able to make me want so much more from these characters and their stories.

The final ending with Tragedy's backstory felt really disconnected with the rest of the game and seemed completely shoehorned in. It was a cute moment but at the same time felt undeveloped and added as sort of a "last minute idea" thing.

But overall, I really enjoyed this game. It's creative, the art is cute, and the story and it's characters were amazing. I haven't felt this way about a game in quite awhile, loved it.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱ 75%

I see Dying Light 2 as an improvement over the first game in *almost* every way. I personally wasn't too attached to the first Dying Light but was still quite excited when I heard about this upcoming sequel.

Graphics & Level Design[7.5/10]
The biggest and most obvious improvement from the original Dying Light has got to be the graphics and level design. DL2 looks great, there is a lot of detail both indoors and outdoors and the lighting was beautiful, indoors especially. Ray-tracing is also a great addition and as usual makes the game look much better. However, I kinda wish they kept with the old art direction and style of the E3 demos as I felt those fit and looked much better.

Old Villedor feels great to parkour around, especially after unlocking more parkour skills. It felt like whatever direction you wanted to go, there was always a smooth path to freerun. The city’s parkour was good but at times felt rough and constricting with the amount of tall buildings everywhere. Story-wise, the game does a really good job directing you to where you have to go, despite the detailed and intricate multi-story locations, I never really felt lost.

Story[6/10]
Now onto the story, the story was good overall, really strong at certain parts, but fell short at the epilogue. Since the game has multiple choices and endings, it must be said that not all choices are as strong as one another narratively. I won’t spoil anything but let’s just say the route I took was vastly more disappointing and lackluster compared to another route. The epilogue still felt like it under-delivered in terms of mystery payoffs and the twist was also pretty weak. Ending aside, I believe that this game had some really good things going for it’s story. Certain scenes hit hard and make themselves really memorable.

Voice Acting & Animations[8/10]
The cutscene in animations are really well done. I was actually surprised by how lively and realistic the movements were in cutscenes. Animations outside of cutscenes are serviceable but could still use some work and polish, AI animations especially. Voice acting was generally pretty well done. All important story characters sounded convincing. Aiden at times sounds really dead and tired, but at crucial scenes his delivery and acting was spot on. Jonah Scott absolutely crushed it with Aiden.

Gameplay[7/10]
Parkour-wise, I felt that the parkour was a huge improvement over the previous game. It follows a similar leveling system of unlocking more parkour skills after gaining points from freerunning or quests. Movement in the beginning of the game feels limited due to the unforgiving low stamina and lack of different moves, I kinda wish you got to start with 3 basic skills or leveled up faster as freerunning without certain skills can make or break the experience for some. The new parkour feels “floaty” or “airy” but I find it to be an improvement as it makes parkouring generally more forgiving and smooth at the cost of realism.

Nightime has unfortunately been revamped for the worse in Dying Light 2. Nighttime is no longer as scary and now works off a GTA-like chase system with differing levels to your chase. Volatiles no longer roam the streets at night and they only ever appear at Chase Level 3, making them essentially non-existent. The chase levels take way too long to build up and you must actively try to get to the higher levels. You also only have a limited amount of time in the dark now which limits night exploration/parkour quite a bit if you haven't upgraded with inhibitors.

Combat-wise, it’s not too dissimilar from the original Dying Light with the exception of some new moves and the removal of firearms as weapons. The human AI on normal difficulty sometimes just stands around staring and takes too long to attack (currently replaying on hard, will update if AI is better). Blocking sometimes felt slow, especially when going for perfect parries or blocks. Being ganged up on by multiple enemies indoors felt really suffocating. Weapon mods also feel like they don't activate often enough and some combat and parkour moves like drop-kicking felt much more inconsistent to pull off. But overall, the combat is still as satisfying in the first game.

There is also a new clothing system for you to gain certain stats depending on which articles of clothing you wear. The stats can range from decreasing stamina while parkouring to increasing XP for certain actions. However, these bonus stats feel quite arbitrary as they only increase the stats slightly (~1-3% increase depending on stat).

As a final note, I was lucky enough to not experience any bugs throughout my entire playthrough but I’ve heard others experiencing some pretty weird bugs. I’m sure these will get ironed out eventually but good to keep note for now.

Soundtrack[9/10]
The OST of Dying Light 2 is one of, if not the best thing in it. The soundtrack, especially chase and freerunning tracks, are composed beautifully. Parkouring with the OST feels surreal and gets you in the mood to just monke jump around everywhere. What’s better is that the soundtrack is synced with your movements: When you’re indoors, the music gets muffled. Whenever you jump, the music gets “suspended” and releases when you land. The music also builds up depending on your current parkour combo. Seriously, whoever came up with this idea is an absolute genius.

Closing
Given how well Techland supported Dying Light, I have no doubt that this game will only get better from here. Dying Light 2 so far has been a really fun experience and I recommend anyone that’s a fan of the first game to give this one a try. If you’ve never heard of Dying Light before but are interested in either zombie or parkour games, you won’t regret trying out Dying Light.

Too long; didn’t read.
Pretty good improvement overall on the first game. The graphics are beautiful even without Ray-Tracing. Parkour feels “floaty” but still good and fast paced. Nightmode is significantly weaker and easier compared to the first game. The story is decent but has an underwhelming ending. And lastly, the OST is composed by gods. Thanks for reading.

Microsoft Load Simulator.

All joking aside this game was everything I wanted it to be and more, really impressive stuff. If only they didn't lock so much planes/airports behind a paywall considering this game's huge base price.
