Exo One
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱ 75%

Never have I ever had an experience where a game was able to make me feel anxiety and a sense of overwhelm to a sense of peace and calm in a second. Incredibly unique game.

The gameplay is easy to pick up and fun, the beginning felt a little overwhelming and anxiety inducing but later levels are great to "zen" off to. Gaining momentum and launching yourself faster than the speed of sound is always satisfying. The graphics overall look great, the terrain textures look flat and lacking in detail but the lighting effects, atmosphere and clouds make up for it. And while the plot was interesting, it felt disconnected from the gameplay and didn't offer enough to form a full story, only to leave speculation and vague guesses.

The soundtrack is great but I really wish that it played more often. You usually only hear the soundtrack when you reach a high enough altitude, leaving a bunch of sections completely void of music. But whenever the soundtrack does play, it gives you a sense of serenity. I also really wished this game was longer, or at least had a level selection/sandbox mode as currently you are unable to select a specific level and have to play through the first few panic attack levels to get to the good ones.

Although I brought up quite a few negative points, I still believe that Exo One is a truly unique experience and I am really glad that I tried it. This game left me wanting more and I'm really hoping the developers will add more onto this game in the future.

Only changing review to positive when CC2 gets their ♥♥♥♥ together and fixes this game.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱ 70%

Early First Impressions:
This review was written within the first 10 hours of the early access. So, naturally, expect most issues mentioned to be fixed in the future. This review will also probably be updated in the future.

Firstly, the stuff that I expect to be fixed quickly after official launch (No affect on my rating as I have faith that they'll be fixed fast): my faith was misplaced, this game feels really mismanaged and the lack of communication is really annoying.
- Lack of 60FPS online
- 4k & widescreen support
- Input delay
- Region change option
- Stability issues & bugs
- Communication errors

Now, before going into the gameplay and combat, I should mention that I don't play fighting games often—or at all, so do take this part with a sandbag of salt. Compared to other fighting games I've seen, this is definitely much easier to learn. It's easier in the sense that it doesn't require you to learn 70 different moves and controller inputs for you to play. But despite being relatively easy to play, the game is fun and still has quite a bit of depth to it's combat. Stringing combos together is satisfying but receiving a long string of combos makes you really feel powerless, especially since there is only effectively one way to break out of a combo. The boost mechanic feels slightly overpowered but this game is still new so I'm looking forward to see what counters people come up with against it. Combat aside, the cast of characters and their abilities are cool but for now feels lacking. Certain characters are unique and have their gimmicks but most generally play the same way.

Graphic-wise, the game look great. It's not perfect—the anti-aliasing and lighting could use some work—but the effects from sword strikes and attacks look really beautiful.

The story mode follows the anime and currently ends at the Mugen Train arc. The in-game story is serviceable but not very interesting if you have already seen the anime. Collecting stuff in the story chapters also feels like a chore.

A few minor but noteworthy mentions: I love the attention to detail put into this game and I love how some character combos have unique interactions in the end screen.

LEGO® Builder's Journey
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱ 65%

This game felt more like a tech demo for RTX features rather than it's own game, and it succeeds in that regard. This game shows off the capabilities of RTX ray-tracing and how beautiful it can make your games look. I found myself really admiring the lighting, shadows, and reflections of each level. The performance with RTX was a little inconsistent though, some levels had high framerate while others had ~30fps.

The puzzles are good for the most part, they encourage you to use your creativity and there can be multiple ways to solve a level. However, later into the game you play as the Dad, and I found his puzzles to be tedious and unfun. Some puzzles also require semi-quick timing which was slightly annoying as the piece placing mechanic is sometimes rough and inaccurate.

This game also lacks replayability, making it difficult to justify the price. Upon finishing this game—which, mind you, took me only about 2 hours, it just loops back to the tutorial. I was really hoping that there would be a puzzle creator, or a "free build" mode, or literally anything else. But alas, there were no bonus features, no bonus levels, nothing. This is also another reason why I think this game is more of a tech demo than a game.

In summary, LEGO Builder's Journey is a short, 2 hour puzzle game that looks gorgeous. It has good puzzles but unfortunately lacks any replay value. Even if you have an RTX card, I'd still recommend you to only get this game when it's on sale.

What Remains of Edith Finch
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱ 90%
Spoilerless

I don't even know how to begin or structure this review, I'm just honestly speechless at the experience I just had. This game single-handedly proves that video games are the best storytelling medium. To be absolutely clear, this game is a walking simulator/interactive story, do not go into this game expecting anything else.

"What Remains of Edith Finch" is a 2 hour storytelling masterpiece that tells it's stories in an interesting, creative, and captivating way. While listening to the narration, the game uses clever subtitling to guide and transition you to and from different scenarios as you play. Furthermore, the scenarios themselves are all unique from each other, each telling their own dark and twisted story in a fitting way.

This game also leaves a lot up to interpretation, so much so that each person that plays could probably come out with a different interpretation of what the story was conveying. However, ambiguity in this game isn't a bad thing as it gives you more than enough clues to piece together a concrete story.

All in all, the gripping story, the melodious soundtrack, the immersive atmosphere, the beautiful graphics, and the incredible attention to detail all come together to deliver an overall wonderful experience. For those wanting a good and interesting story, this is a definite must play.

Detroit: Become Human
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱ 90%
Spoilerless

Absolutely phenomenal game, even on a second playthrough. “Detroit: Become Human” is one of the very, very few games that take the "your choices matter" phrase seriously (unlike *cough* Telltale). This game has many branches to a chapter and many possible routes, most of which weighing heavily on future outcomes/decisions. Meanwhile Telltale and many other choices matter stories just ask you what fruit you'd prefer, apples or oranges, and give you apples regardless of the choice.

Story-wise, there are many paths and endings you can take, most of which are generally pretty interesting to watch. You will follow 3 main characters: Connor, Markus, and Kara. Connor's and Markus' stories are always interesting to play. As Connor, you play as a detective trying to solve murder cases and find clues to the cause of deviants. While as Markus, you play as the leader of androids and work towards freedom and liberation for androids. Both of these characters have such a captivating story and the many different outcomes you can take are really interesting to see. The same unfortunately can't be said for Kara's story. In her story, you play as a mother figure looking after a child, her story has a heavy emphasis on the importance of family. While Kara's story has its moments, it's still significantly weaker and worse written compared to Connor and Markus' stories, some even find her story to be a chore to play. As previously mentioned, this game has an incredible amount of branches and paths to take. The focal point of this game is the choices you make, and how they impact your story. In some cases, things you do in one character's playthrough will impact another's. This game is also quite unforgiving, aside from Connor, if you mess up and your character dies early, you're not granted with a failure or restart screen, the story continues with or without that character. And although Connor is pretty much immortal, there are still consequences for dying too many times as him and/or failing his investigations. And if you go down a path you don't like, that's the path you have to follow through with. Either that or restart from an early save point and retry everything again. The sheer amount of paths and choices in “Detroit: Become Human” naturally gives it an incredible amount of replay value, making sure you really get your money's worth.

The gameplay consists of mostly walking from one point and another, talking to characters, scanning and solving puzzles, and QTEs. It plays more of like an interactive movie rather than a game, despite that, I would still encourage you to play this game instead of watching a playthrough on YouTube as it is still a much better experience. This game is also accompanied by beautiful graphics, visuals, and animation, with great attention to detail and high quality textures. The game also has a convincing crowd AI, giving life to the bustling city of Detroit and adds to the immersion as you walk along the streets.

To top it all off, “Detroit: Becomes Human” has an impeccable OST, the music in Connor's parts are especially good, being able to immediately set the mood and give off this badass vibe to it every time. Each character's themes also fit really well, Connor, as mentioned, has a cool badass theme. Markus' theme has a heroic and somber feel. Kara's theme sounds gentle and soft. All themes reflecting the stories and experiences the characters will go through. The overall background OSTs are also fitting and nice to listen to.

Tl;dr - “Detroit: Become Human” is a really immersive story-rich game that follows 3 characters, Connor, Markus, and Kara, all of which have many important choices that affect future outcomes. It's a game that delivers a great story with interactive gameplay, beautiful graphics, and has an amazing score peppered over it. A definite must play.

The Beginner's Guide
Rating: ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▱▱ 80%

This "game" won't be for everyone, it's a short, but very thought-provoking game. If you've seen a playthrough of this game before as I have, the experience will definitely be nulled since you know the twist. But for those who've never seen this game before, this will be a powerful experience.

The Beginner's Guide is an interactive walking simulator that on the surface is a story about a guy who talks about his friend, Coda's, games. He shares his thoughts of his friend's games and the supposed stress and decline in his mental health from the exhaustion of making these games. For those thinking of playing this game, find a time where you can play through the game in one sitting without interruptions.

Very light spoilers:
Side note, I've also noticed some things on a repeated playthrough, like Davey's projection of why Coda "added" the lampposts. Hearing him talk about that knowing what happens gives you a different point of view and is super interesting to me.
