Just watched the August Noclip Documentary update, And had to come by to finally leave a Review. Coming from a new Programmer who's looking for a company to start coding for I gotta say I hope I find somewhere like Supergiant Games.

As for the Game itself...

---{Graphics}---
☐ You forget what reality is
☒ Beautiful
☐ Good
☐ Decent
☐ Bad
☐ Don‘t look too long at it
☐ MS-DOS

The style of this game really blew me away. The one thing I was bummed about is that at the time of playing there wasn't 21:9 Ultrawide support, but instead of black bars there was a beautiful backdrop. I'm not sure if this has changed, or not. I'd love to see it in the future, but the fact that they thought about that, and actually added some great art to the sides it didn't even feel like it didn't

---{Gameplay}---
☒ Very good
☐ Good
☐ It‘s just gameplay
☐ Mehh
☐ Watch paint dry instead
☐ Just don't

I had a blast playing this nonstop for a week, and then like anything else I took a break only to find myself wanting to play again a week later. Usually when I play a single player game I complete the story if I'm lucky, and move onto the next. There's only a handful of games out there I want replay shortly after "beating". It's fluid, and has a great feel to it. There's also so many things that can switch up the combat style, and make it feel like a different game. There's a lot to dig into here.

---{Audio}---
☐ Eargasm
☒ Very good
☐ Good
☐ Not too bad
☐ Bad
☐ I'm now deaf

The music has such a unique, and fitting quality to it. It's some of the only video game music i'd want to listen to while not even playing the game. Ambience is amazing especially in the main hub. The voice acting is great, and adds such personality to each character.

---{Audience}---
☐ Kids
☐ Teens
☐ Adults
☒ All

Could get rough for kids a bit too young in difficulty, but as for content id let my kid play it.

---{PC Requirements}---
☐ Check if you can run paint
☐ Potato
☒ Decent
☐ Fast
☐ Rich boi
☐ Ask NASA if they have a spare computer

I'm pretty sure that you don't need much to run this game, but I have a higher end system so I can't speak for a lower end build, but It's doesn't seem like it needs too much.
---{Difficulity}---
☐ Just press 'W'
☐ Easy
☐ Significant brain usage
☒ Easy to learn / Hard to master
☐ Difficult
☐ Dark Souls

It can be as difficult as you want it to be. There's a setting which let's your character get a slight DPS/HP buff after each death making the game progress a bit faster, and is good if you've never played a roguelike game before. There's also a variety of weapons, and "boons" which you use to build your character each run. This can result in being blessed, or cursed by the RNG gods (pun intended). Some runs I've felt like I was kicking this games ass, and then the next I get put in my place.

---{Grind}---
☐ Nothing to grind
☐ Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks
☐ Isn't necessary to progress
☒ Average grind level (There's a lot there if you want it though)
☐ Too much grind
☐ You‘ll need a second live for grinding

Being a roguelike some "grind" is expected, but it never felt like that, because the progression felt rewarding enough to me, and if I got tired of anything I could always switch up my play style, and have a vastly different experience.

---{Story}---
☐ No Story
☐ Some lore
☐ Average
☐ Good
☒ Lovely
☐ It‘ll replace your life

This is still early access, and I can't speak on the ending, but I can't wait to finish the story. The Characters are colorful, and beautiful in both artwork, and personality. The story is engaging, and the way in which it's delivered is perfect for a roguelike. I wont spoil it for you but it's great.

---{Game Time}---
☐ Long enough for a cup of coffee
☐ Short
☒ Average
☒ Long
☒ To infinity and beyond

A full run takes anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes depending on your play style. It will take you anywhere from just a couple runs to a dozen before you actually make it through without dying, idk though I'm not an epic gamer though so it took me a couple days lol. but if you are having a hard time there's a setting which actually helps if you need it.
---{Price}---
☐ It’s free!
☒ Worth the price
☐ If u have some spare money left
☐ Not recommended
☐ You could also just burn your money

This game offers more in early access then a lotta $40-$60 games out there. I'll be buying the switch version and the soundtrack on official release as well.

---{Bugs}---
☐ Never heard of
☒ Minor bugs
☐ Can get annoying
☐ ARK: Survival Evolved
☐ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs

I have played since the Steam launch, and only ran into a few minor bugs here, and there, but minus the story being wrapped up it's felt like a full fledged game to me from the get go, Compared to some AAA release day games this game is much more stable.

I know others are having issues, but I'm almost 60 hours in, and I just had my first crash so I can't complain too much. As for the actual game, it's a no brainer, get it.

I really wanted to recommend this one, I really did... I had a blast with it the first couple hours, experimenting with build ideas, finding new spells, and abilities, and was even getting into the mediocre story... Then shortly after Chapter 2 started the entire game fell apart.
I want to start by saying that this game has potential, and I do like it, and I would tell you buy it in a heart beat if you're reading this months after release, and you know they have fixed the problems. I'm gonna start out with the good.

THE GOOD:
- Amazing Doom/Warhammer/Diablo art style, and theme.
- The most refreshing take on character skills/talents in an ARPG, or better yet RPG i've seen in a while.
- Unique, and thought out spells/abilities
- Limitless potential for builds. There's literally room here for anything you can think of.
- Feels like the first next gen arpg on the market. (for what is actually done.)
- If this studio pulls their ♥♥♥♥ together Wolcen will give the big boy arpgs a run for their money.

Now lets get into what is unacceptable about this game, and why I wont be recommending, or playing it until things change...

THE BAD:

- This game has an absolutely unacceptable amount of game breaking bugs for it to be considered a full release let alone a 40$ one. This is 1st/2nd year early access level.

- I can't make it through a single stage without getting stuck on the floor defenseless, or without the audio cutting out. The enemies are either one punch chumps, or bullet sponges from hell.

- The difficulty "curve" is more like a roller coaster. One minute thinking you have a decent build to the next wanting to respec, but not being able to due to the extremely low drop rate of the currency you need to respec while leveling. I get wanting end game respec to be expensive, but while leveling the rates should be WAY lower. A skill/talent system this big takes time to get used to, and find a viable build. You should be able to fix mistakes without feeling like you are being stopped by a paywall that doesn't actually exist.

- The entire game is severely unbalanced. I've seen some builds literally go god mode on this game while others make completing the game literally impossible, and with the insane cost to respec, you better hope you do your homework, or you'll be grinding before you're half way through the story. This also isn't just due to imbalance either...

- A serious chunk of the passives just don't work period, and this doesn't help the fact that there's virtually no information in the game about what each stat does there really is no way to take chances, which I think defeats the purpose of a game like this.

- If you do play, and end up making it to the end of the first chapter, and getting your angel/mech suit thing, don't pick the reaper/chaos one, because it doesn't work. I spent an hour in the chapel/holdout stage shortly after getting it watching my character jump around the screen while that horrible computer crashing audio skip blasted my ears, only the finally be stuck casting a spell for another 2 minutes, only to be dropped dead on the floor.

- There are some awful UI bugs as well. Items being dragged under the gem window, or not being able to directly drag armor from the gem vendor window back to yourself without having to drop it in your bag first, having to click a few times here, a few times there to get the ui to respond, Oh and on Ultrawide resolutions seeing editor lighting/animation cuts off the side of the cut scenes.

All in all the 15 1/2 hours I spent with this game felt like I was working QA, or playing a new early access game. Just didn't feel like it was even to a beta stage. Late alpha at best. This would be fine if this is what the studio was selling, but it isn't. This awful habit the industry has picked up has got to stop, and it doesn't matter if it's the big AAA studios, or the underdog. I don't care if you're a small studio, or not. It's a outright deceptive practice. If development didn't go as planned, and you have backers to satisfy then do the right thing, and take the hit. Release it as an early access, make some in game goodies for the loyal fans, and release it when it's ready.

Regardless of all of that I really do hope I can come back, and change this review, and I hope the devs apologize for this launch instead of just blaming the "server load". That's obviously an issue, but that seems to be the patsy in this case. It seems to be more of a coding nightmare/lack of QA that is really the cause of this games issues right now.

Amazing game... I bought a Playstation when this game first dropped, and was pretty pissed, but still saw the potential in it. Years later, I decided to give it another chance on PC, and I instantly lost all of the bad taste that was left in my mouth. Then to read the story about how this studio not only accepted responsibility, but fixed their mistake. Then went ahead to continually release content on a regular schedule for years, and without charging an extra penny for this? On top of all of that released the VR version free of charge... Sure the release was bull, and deserved the heat it got, bu talk about a come back...

As for gameplay...

"Pros" or some things I love about the game :

- It's an open world(galaxy), exploration focused, base building, survival, game which is now multiplayer.

- Seamlessly go from ground, to sky, to space, to space station, to stars.

- Discover animals, plants, rocks, space ships, etc. Name these discoveries, and upload them for others to see.

- The game is so large that you will have to spend a lot of time warping to get to "hubs" as they call them with other players planets, but now you can call a space station to meet up with other players as well.

- Combat is alright, not anything groundbreaking, but it's not awful, but it's not the main focus of the game.

- One of the most in depth base building systems out there. Ever wanted to create an underground cave system base with a secret entry? How about an underwater base, or a floating one? All possible. Check out the bases shared on the workshop.

- Mod community is pretty awesome, and one big modder actually was brought on the team to help make his vehicle mod a part of the game.

- In depth upgrade system for all aspects of the game like base building, combat, movement, vehicles, etc

- Decent campaign, or "story mode" which introduces you to the main mechanics of the game, and while it can be a bit on the short side, It can also take as long as you want it to.

- Massive crafting system in place with cooking, animal taming, farming, mining, etc.

- Honestly so much more I'm forgetting about

"Cons" or Some things I would like to see implemented/changed :

- Inventory system can be clunky sometimes, but it has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ drastically better over the games lifetime (it was probably the worst one I've ever seen at launch)

- Fauna/Biomes can get old, and makes the "magic" go away. I'm not sure if they've been working on this or not, but this is where I think they could improve the game drastically right now. It's been out so long that I've seen every type of plant/animal/planet out there, and even though every planet is different they all don't FEEL different. A big update that added variety would be great.

- Ship customization... There's a new system in place which lets you upgrade your ships inventory, and rank, but I think everyone would love to see a in depth system which allows players to really create their own ships.

- More in depth story/quests. While there is a short story, after that there isn't much more. Most of the "quests" or activities you do are like random "daily" missions... Build this here, or collect 20 of this. I think a more in depth questing system would give this game a lot more appeal to people who've been playing it for a long time.

- More alien races

- Some kind of ship battling matchmaking system, Large scale ship battles you can jump into, and take part of, and fight other players/npcs. Same goes for ground fighting. There's a lack of PvP, and even the PvE isn't really fleshed out. If the combat systems got fine tuned this game could really out do itself

Overall I would buy this game if you have any interest in it what so ever. Even more so if you have a VR setup. It's well worth the 60$ price tag, but it's not for everyone. If you're not sure I'd still say give it a shot, because it really is a beautiful game, and the experience itself is worth it for someone who isn't into these "survival" type games. I don't really play any other games like that, and I still love this one. Regardless we should be supporting companies like this. Ones that actually care about the games they're making. If you can look up a couple interviews Sean Murray has done talking about post launch, and how they handled the blowback. If we had more people like this in the industry our games would be a lot better. The studio has my respect, and even though they made a huge mistake with this title, they didn't give up on it, and they made sure they gave their customers what they deserved, and then some. This game is a beautiful game, and I believe you will agree.

Enjoying it for what it is so far. Would have loved if so much content wasn't left out, but it still fits the bill for a 20$ game as is. It could be massivly improved on possibly through DLC. I Wish there was more weapons, items, and abilities to customize your Character. I tried going for a custom build that strayed from my classes original idea, and ended up just falling in line as it made life a lot easier. Some weapons are just not viable compared to your other options which does suck. Depending on how good you are at the game the main story could take around 12-30 hours to complete. I'm 12 hours in, and am not even half way through it. I has a few bugs, but not gamebreaking. You may just die once or twice throughout the game due to them. This does effect if you are playing on permadeath mode, so if that's your plan this game might not be the best choice,

All in all this IS a good game, and I would reccomend it, even more so if it's on sale. It's not perfect, but the gameplay is fun, and the story is there. I am enjoying myself, and will most likely end up playing through on newgame+, and with different toons. Hoping for some DLC, or patches that fix some things down the road. If you like Castlevania, Dark Souls, 2D/Indie titles you will enjoy this one.

Pros
- Great Artwork/Environment
- Interesting story/Characters
- Decent amount of classes/play styles
- Newgame+/Replayability
- Difficulty makes defeating bosses very rewarding
- Boss replayablity, and different difficulty levels
- Permadeath mode
- Nonlinear
- Optional/ semi-secret bosses
- Item upgrade system
- Respecing (limited to 2 times I believe)

Cons
- Bugs (The one where you get stuck to a wall untill you spam attack your way out is the worst I've seen)
- Leveling/Talent system leaves a bit to be desired (your standard talent/stat system not much else)
- Needs more Weapon/Item Variety (most skills are bound to weapons, and some weapons suck too bad to make it worth it)
- Combat could be a little bit more fluid (not awful at all, but still feels clunky at times)
- Needs more graphical settings
- needs more keybind customization/multiple keybinds (some keybinds don't show on ui)
-Locked to 60fps
