Another "live service" game seppuku'd unceremoniously in the night because it failed to meet the quotas of milking it's community of cash. In retrospect having 10 different forms of currently was probably a red flag.

This really needs to stop. The mobile game mentality needs to die off and never come back. Games need to go back to being games and not money vacuums. Because this is what will happen each time and every time a game is designed for profits instead of gameplay.

This is a drop in an ocean of dead "live service" games.

Kingdom Eighties plays pretty much like all the other Kingdom games but now with an awesome 80's neon coat of paint. Everywhere you look there's an easter egg or reference, everything from Back To The Future, to My Little Pony, to Breakfast Club, to ET. If it happened in the 80's you'll probably notice it here at some point.

This game takes the story element from Two Crowns and cranks it up to eleven. Instead of simply just "fix boat leave" there are now different levels with their own narrative focus. The Camp level for example has you recovering the canoe and have to locate a gold trophy to motivate the resident canoe rower into doing the job.

One of the biggest complaints I've seen is that the game is just too easy now, and since the game mainly focuses on you completing the main campaign at all costs that is largely true. On top of easier enemies you also get 3 indestructible NPCs that will defend you to the death and you have to try, really try, to actually die and lose the game now.

With that said however once you finish the main campaign you unlock Survival Mixtapes, an endless wave mode that is more akin to the brutal difficulty of the original Kingdom game and the Challenge Isles of Two Crowns.

So get this game and party on dudes!

Two Crowns takes everything that New Lands did and builds upon it further. For starters as the name might imply you can now have two monarchs for the price of one ruling your lands. This game has local and online co-op.

This game is everything the previous games were and so much more. More buildings, more units, more mounts, more enemies, more things to spend money on, more more more. There are also 4 campaigns including Norse Lands and Dead Lands (Bloodstained crossover) where the monarchs don't take things laying down and take a more aggressive approach to cleaning out the corruption of their lands. That's right, some of the monarchs are no longer helpless anymore.

The game also now introduces the concept of heirs and roguelite progression. When you die the next heir in line will pick up more or less where you left off, your castle, your armies, your unlocks. When portals are closed they stay closed for the next heir. And shrines now stay unlocked for the remainder of the run instead of having to be reactivated every several days. No more starting over from scratch. In essence parts of the game got a whole lot easier because you get to lockdown certain elements of progression in place.

Of course for those missing the true roguelike challenge of the oldskool Kingdom there's challenge mode. One life, no heirs, all progress is reset upon death, and enemies attack you from both sides like they used to. It's the ride or die experience of Kingdoms Classic with a new coat of paint.

I definitely recommend this if you enjoyed the previous Kingdom titles or if you enjoy tower defense games and roguelikes in general.

Sequel to the original Kingdom which has since been rebranded to Kingdom Classic. Mechanically it plays the same as the original game. It's still the same atmospheric minimalistic yet surprisingly complex kingdom building sim. But as the name suggests there are now new lands to explore.

The original was you against an endless hoard of monsters where the only real objective was to survive for as long as possible. But now you have the option to construct a boat and flee to safer shores making it possible to actually win the game instead of just prolonging your demise.

Definitely check this out if you enjoyed the original because this is everything the original game was plus more!

The game itself was decent enough, an arena team shooter set in the Gundam universe, but Bandai Namco does what Bandai Namco does best, claim that The West just doesn't like Gundam.

Let's be honest though, the red flags were there from the start. While the game was still in the earliest beta stages it already had a functional cash shop trying to peddle you overpriced skins, premium currency, experience boosters, and battle passes. And most people tend to forget this but they tried selling you ranked matches as part of a premium pass, something that should be an accessible game mechanic out of the box. That was probably one of the biggest red flags the moment I launched this game.

I'm only leaving a positive review in the hopes that someone might revive the license in the future and give this game the proper treatment it deserves.

Played this game quite a bit back in the day. It was a decent stand-in for something like Guilty Gear until they brought Guilty Gear's corpse back from the grave.

That was then however. Now is 2023, the age of moral panic, political correctness, and perpetual outrage. I don't know how or why but apparently there's a new dev team in charge and they're going through a game that people purchased A DECADE AGO and removing "problematic content" that offends the mythical "modern audience". Announcer packs, character backstories, concept art, you name it.

Never thought I'd be giving Skullgirls a negative review but here we are. All I'll say is good luck doing business in the future with the gamers you just alienated. Hope the activism brownie points were worth it.

The 5th and final chapter in the Blackwell saga. As a standalone title the game is absolutely superb. But as the self proclaimed epiphany to an entire set of games it definitely falls apart halfway through and feels like they just wanted to wrap up the series. Without going into too many spoilers important plot threads from previous games were completely ignored and the main villain seems to have been chosen at random. This game promised answers to a big conspiracy but instead delivered a smaller beautifully crafted mystery.

While I am a bit disappointed with how things ended this is still an amazing game in the end.

The 4th game in the Blackwell series. Gameplay wise it's more of the same but Rosa now has a smartphone and can access the internet for clues on the go instead of having to go back and forth to her apartment between crime scenes after key conversations. Welcome to the true digital age.

The plot now thickens as you slowly start to expose a sinister cabal that's been quietly manipulating supernatural events in the background all these years.

The 3rd of the 5 Blackwell games. Rosa is now slightly more experienced as a medium at this point and continuing the tag team mechanic from the previous game Joey has even more to contribute to the gameplay making him feel more like a co-protagonist instead of a support NPC. The story is also now picking up momentum with consequences of events from the previous games.

Continue the journey of two spunky supernatural detectives.

I was really looking forward to playing this but apparently this is one of those lazy PC ports that can't even be bothered to give you a simple key binding option. It's not rocket science if you're going to port a game to PC then provide proper PC optimization options, not everyone has a controller or uses whatever bizarre layout the developers have chosen to use.

Not sure why this doesn't let you rebind keys since all the Shantae and Switch Force games let you. WayForward is usually better than this.
