Don't bother getting it now.

I die a little inside each time my friends get me to play this game with them.

I may be ashamed of playing a Tower Defense this much.
I am not, however, ashamed of playing Defender's Quest this much.
I enjoyed the story.
Characters were a bit cliché, but that doesn't really mean they're bad. I actually enjoyed them :)

Almost a decent gimmick.
Not good in any way.

Controls are a bit braindead and unimaginative.
The rest of it is good though. :)
Except some parts in the writing >:( ... We won't talk about those parts.

It's Mad Max... In a video game.

Semi-Spoiler Warning:
The story is good, despite being very filleresque.

Spoiler Alert:
You are lead to believe there is some character development in our main man mad max, but in the end, there is not in this flat character arc. Still good though. Not saying flat arcs are bad. :)
