Shadow Empire is how 4X games should be. Reminiscent of Sid Meir's Alpha Centauri, this game scratches the itch for a complex and deep strategy game.

I can not launch the game for nearly 2 years and Paradox support has not been helpful, only making the problem worse (not being able to launch any title using the Paradox launcher). Then they banned me from their forums for complaining about their incompetence.

Save your money. This game lacks the humor and the atmosphere created by the original Evil Genius. The development team apparently didn't comprehend what made the original a classic. They did an OK job of releasing a game that functions, for this they deserve credit of not following the industry standard of releasing an unplayable mess and telling their customers to go screw themselves.

In summary, the game is boring, but it works.

Unlike Stellaris, of which the developers have actively destroyed since its release, Crusader Kings II has only gotten better.

With the announcement of Crusader Kings 3, the game has become free to play and some of the DLC is becoming free. I'm a little jealous.

The developers, in their infinite wisdom, are removing the only feature in this game that makes Stellaris stand out from any other 4x space game: Warp Drive and Wormhole FTL, leaving only the pedestrian and unoriginal Hyperlane FTL.

I can no longer recommend Stellaris.

As time goes on the stated reasons for the removal of Warp and Wormhole FTL are being proven to be lies.

Edit: As time goes by, the once GREAT potential of Stellaris has faded into the mediocrity of the space 4x field. Only Distant Worlds Universe stands out as unique and interesting. RIP Stellaris, the lying Wiz killed you too early.

Update: With the new 3.0 patch, Paradox has further ruined the game. This is becoming a trend with this once great game publishing company. They are becoming the EA of the mid 90, on the verge of being evil. Save your money and stay away from this company's products.

While I don't reccomend this game, it is still better that that POS called Master of Orion. And this game is cheaper.

So if you are considering buying that POS disguised as Master of Orion, do yourself a favor, save some money and buy this POS instead.

The game was originally a very humorous blend of city builder and resource manager with a bit of RTS elements. That was apparently too much for this developer to handle, so it was scrapped and turned into you sub-par RTS with no soul. If that is what you like, zerg away.
