I was playing this game when my wife's water broke. I was playing this game when my son started crawling. I'll be playing this game when he goes off to school. Help.

As someone who started Gloomhaven in table top, moved to TTS and now to the digital version I think this is the best way to play Gloomhaven.

The QoL stuff is nice, but the #1 reason is: Speed. We used to take about 3 hours to play once scenario in Gloomhaven. In Digital we can play about a scenario every ~45 minutes as a 2-person team or hour, hour-fifteen as a 3-person.

Do I miss the little minis and the boxes and the envelopes? Yep. I wish the digital version did a slightly better job about creating that anticipation. But I sure am glad to have all that time back.

AN elegiac wander through the shadow of empire. Woefully resonant for our current moment. Stunningly well written, expertly paced. Serious 'Ducks, Newburyport' vibes.

In the best way possible, it's kind of like playing an MMO by yourself, or with a few friends. Weirdly soothing and surprisingly complex, it continues to unfurl, revealing new mechanics and features over time. A lovely game made by people who clearly loved it.

It's like Minesweeper with a strategic edge. You explore a map square by square gathering followers and collecting bonuses. At the end of the round a raging barbarian horde tries to tear down your cities. Their success is based on the bonuses you've collected the cities you've found.

You get to spend your followers on things like new tech or bulking up a city's defense. It's very mechanically driven, each level playing out like a dynamic puzzle. I'm reminded of Sid Mier's statement that "Games are a series of interesting decisions". Indeed, each decision I make on the map feels consequential and distinct.

It's a very early aughts indie game in that it's very rules driven with the real fun in the emergent pockets between those rules. The graphics are lovely in their themeing and pragmatics, but they're not going to win awards.

For the price I totally recommend it. It was a really compelling concept that's easy to learn and difficult to master. What a treat!

Unplayable on many Lenovo laptops, 860m in particular seems hardhit. Many users can't get past the load screen. Buy on a console and save yourself the misery.
