Just as fun as the first game without any of the grind for money

Fun game, would definitely recommend picking this up during a sale

My attempt at a humble review (mild spoilers):

The pros:
- The new Alt floors are very well done, the atmosphere and the music is spot on. I bought the game on the premise that these would be good, so I'm very happy about this.
- The new bosses are also very fun to play against.
- The new final ending and associated secrets feel like a fitting conclusion to the game.
- The reworked sprites, sound effects, synergies etc... really makes it feel like I'm playing a crisp, new game. The Book of Virtues synergies are my favourite especially.

The cons:
- Some of the changes, like the nerfs to the tinted rocks and to the shop, feel very unnecessary. I donated 999 coins to the shop so I feel like I have earned some consistency in my runs. Not having the precious soul heart or key spawning feels frustrating.
- The nerfs to some items and mechanics also feel slightly awkward. Though I don't mind most of them (Dark Bum, Guppy etc...), others feel slightly pointless and just an annoyance. I don't mind there being a Devil deal rework, just give me the health I need to actually pay for them? Why hide the second treasure room item on the Alt Floor? I want to have fun on my runs. I suppose that some items were buffed, but again, it just "averages" the item pools, without making them actually worth it.
- On the topic of item pools, we are at that stage of the game where there are too much items in each item pool. Keep in mind that there are over 200 items that I haven't unlocked yet, so the game is going to suffer more. In my opinion, there needs to be more options available, or some mechanic that just removes some items from their pools.
- The Alt floor final boss is in my opinion not very fun or rewarding to play against. The mod made it a very challenging, fun experience, but the Repentance version feels very cramped and claustrophobic.

All in all, I err on the side of optimism and will recommend this DLC for everyone, on the condition that Ed and the Repentance Team listen to their community and take the time to polish the game further (which it has already done, in many aspects).


TL;DR: give me my soul hearts and my OP Brim + capped tear rate + every single DMG item in the game Ed you monsterrrrrrr
