For me, this game is a good recommendation but with a HUGE asterisk next to that thumbs up. Since I only recently got gifted the game, obviously I haven't played the entirety of it. But, I can definitely point out some things that may or may not dissuade prospective buyers.

First, this isn't a Euro Truck Sim in space or flying a Type-7 in Elite hauling valuable minerals. I'd say this cuts out the majority of the travel time to only a handful of minutes when actually in-system. Sure there's mechanics like other truck sims where you watch your speed and whatnot, but this is less truck sim and more repairman sim.

Probably the biggest thing I didn't expect was the amount of maintenance so early on. Your truck, for some reason, is built out of parts from Temu and the hull is made out of cardboard. Your air filters and batteries will die constantly, even on the default difficulty, and you will spend an arm and a leg buying new ones. While it's insanely rewarding to let out a sigh of relief when you get spare batteries, the game will eat them up in the time it takes you to finish half a haul unless youre min/maxxing your power or beat you over the head with a rather goofily introduced crime/punishment system.

When hauling cargo, you can sometimes be forced to redirect to a weigh station to check your weight. This has only happened once and it was the second I went over weight and entered a system I had been to at least 6 times before already. I tried dumping the cargo out of sight and the mystical underpaid oracle working that day somehow spotted me and took literally all my money. Reloading and going through it made me forfeit the cargo instead. It should be random when you get checked, not just the second you go over weight. It breaks immersion and makes the game feel cheap.

The only other gameplay issue is that there aren't many radio stations and it's trial and error to put your own in. I wasn't able to use half of the ones I put in, while the other half worked but brought the already chugging game down to a standstill.

Speaking of performance, this game is horrible with its optimization. I can run Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty on Psycho raytracing, 2k, ultra settings with DLAA and get well over 120fps, but on medium this game *barely* scrapes by 60. I'm not one who needs max settings, but a stable 60fps on something that exceeds the recommended requirements isn't too much to ask.

I'd say that, as it stands, it's a neat game. Don't go into it expecting a long haul sim and get it on sale to have the best enjoyment. $24.99 does not feel like a fair price for something with glaring performance issues and wonky, half-baked systems that do nothing except beat the player down for daring to try experimenting. When I either get sufficiently far in the game OR finish it, I'll redo this review with all of my findings, positives, and negatives about the game.

One of my favorite games ever, something that I've spent countless hours playing using the old First Decade CD I have in my game case. To me, this is the peak of early era RTS games.

Women fear me
Fish fear me
Men turn their eyes away from me as I walk
No beast dare makes a sound in my presence
I am alone on this barren earth
