Profoundly effective. A game worth the money and time investment.

I've made a huge mistake

They figured out video games

Can't recommend this until some sort of mid-drive save functionality is put in place. At least let us suspend our session upon quitting. Happy to support this game when my time is respected here, as it's clear a lot of love was put into it. But life happens and no singleplayer video game should ever punish you for that.

Passes the "should I keep this 137 gb game on the hard drive" test, the highest echelon. Monumental stuff.

This is less of an objective review and more of a PSA to not give this game your money. If you're curious just game pass it, you literally owe it to yourself not to pay full or near full price for this.

Loot with no character, constant time wasting design decisions (nobody flagged having to go through multiple steps just to go back into orbit from a space station?), baffling and inconsistent graphical performance, a story that will put you into a six-feet-under slumber well before anything interesting happens, gunplay on par with their stuff from 8 years ago minus the VATS pressure relief, and worst of all, a completely mundane world with near zero compelling exploration to be done. I have my qualms with other bethesda titles but that last one really is the deal breaker here, this is like if no man's sky felt janky. 70 dollars. Totally shameless.

I honestly wanted Microsoft to have a W this year after a pretty pathetic exclusive showing, but this just isn't it. Game design on autopilot. I haven't hated a game in a while and it sucks, but I actually loathed my time with this. Please reconsider purchasing before trying on game pass at least, there's almost no way to get a sense of what this game is going to be before the return window is up so you really are gambling on this being at least a decent time, and I genuinely cannot guarantee that will be the case. Easily my least favorite game I've played all year, as someone who's regular and doesn't waste time playing actual unplayable piss like that King Kong game. A 5/10 at best, and I'm giving it that through gritted teeth. Please do not spend 70 dollars on this.

PC port is fine, console is the best way to go here having platted it on ps5. But game is an all timer and should be played in the best way available. A year later and I still think about and return to this regularly. This is the only game released this gen that's actually worth 70 dollars and that's not even its MSRP. 10/10.

The best survival horror remake yet, and I don't say that lightly

This is a cavernously deep revelation of a game, one with writing that could have otherwise have been found in a great book. The only criticism would be certain bits of voice acting not being as on par as everything else in the game. That's pretty much it. Everyone should play this at least once. A masterpiece and easily the best game of 2019.
