what the damn hell did they do

This game is by no means a bad racing game. It has a lot of fun cars to drive and a lot of events. However, when compared to the older GRID games, it's a massive step down.

Let's get the most obvious downgrade out of the way. This game is incredibly linear, and chooses the Forza Motorsport option of letting you pick events from a wall of other organized events. It's okay, and does the job.

The main problem I have with the game is the repetition of tracks and events. Oh my god does this game reuse tracks. For some reason, Codemasters, who, y'know, make the Formula One games, and also many previous GRID games, have decided to put around 11 locations in the game (some paid DLC) and some layouts on them, and call them a day. Why? GRID: Autosport and GRID 2 had some of the most creative street circuits in racing games (Miami and Chicago are two of many that ring a bell) and the real world locations are also lowered. There's no Hockenheim, no Washington, no Circuit of the Americas, Mount Panorama, Istanbul... I could go on, and on. It just doesn't make any sense and makes later playthroughs of the game boring and drag on and on because you're doing the same tracks over and over again, and sometimes, you're doing them BACKWARDS!

The biggest problem with this massive track downsize is that there are some car and track combinations that are some of the worst driving experiences I've had the pleasure of having. Jesus, the later parts of Stock are terrible because true story: these trucks and stock cars are not made for some of the tracks that you have to drive on. And it's very noticeable.

Looking past the glaring problem there is a decent racing game that would've been much better if it had more content. What a tale to tell. Get it on sale or something. That's a price it's worth for its contents.

there's a lot of fun to be had in this game. the combat is simple yet feels like there's real weight behind it. the driving is kinda funky, but my only real complaint with this game is the shooting inaccuracy. the story, while a little silly at times, can be intriguing and has a decent amount of likable characters. it has a looot of side content (and two kinda weird but serviceable dlc bundles included). it's a good pick up on sale for cheap - got it for like $3 during the winter sale.

this game is good. its characters are great, its story is, in a series full of great ones, one to remember, and cinematically, it's incredible.
however, being the first dragon engine game, there's a lot that is iffy.
if they were trying to show kiryu's age, they did a great job of it. combos can spontaneously end because your attack bounced off a guarding enemy, kiryu's attacks are slow and lumbersome, and when you get hit you're unable to do anything for about 5 seconds.
that doesn't mean the game is hard, in fact, it's probably one of the easiest, mainly because of the weird heat orb system, and extreme heat being completely broken sometimes. but, i have no idea why they stopped selling staminan royales and why there isn't a pharmacy in kamurocho anymore. just seems a little silly.
all in all, good game. i enjoyed my time with it. you might too.

this is the first game to make me genuinely sob. play it

this is the first yakuza game i 100%'d, worth it
a little grindy (bouncer missions and coliseum) but the club czar and majima construction storylines are fun
sotenbori looks gorgeous in this, actually, everything does
the dragon engine is very funny and wonky but it looks gorgeous and i love the fighting system
overall very good game, very well put together and just an enjoyable experience as a whole

fun game! game is pretty and i like the drive. collisions wonky tho :/
