The mods vary a lot, you can get harder bosses, more content overall out of mods, or the mods can just be QoL and you can simply add them to smoothen out your gameplay.
All the block selection and backgrounds you can play around with, you dont even have to play the game for the bossing content, you can also just play the game for building purposes and other aesthetic reasons. Its really fun to experiment with different building materials and the amount of space you have to work with is nuts.
