I suppose I'll have to think twice before spending money on a game made by just 3 devs that's way too ambitious for its own good.

Where to start.. unfortunately I was willing to look past some awkward controls early on in the game as well as sort of clunky combat since it's an indie title with a small dev team so I played past the 2 hour refund limit in the first area just taking in the sights. It's really a pity that the splendit art direction in this game has to be bogged down by everything else in it.

The game is BUGGY.
Controls are floaty and awkward and my character keeps getting stuck into the level geometry, sometimes you get stuck inside elevators or fall right through them. There are levels positioned in such a way that trying to interact with them will shove directly into the level geometry as well, with no way out other than the "Respawn" button. There's instances where enemies will just phase right through me, unable to damage me and I can't damage them, except the mages! The land mine spells they cast can still hurt me while they are immune to damage. Stamina sometimes remains stuck on infinite, it will even regenerate while I'm running, even near enemies. Enemies will just get stuck inside the level geometry or will walk themselves into a spot where they just get stuck and stop reacting, I've had two knight dudes once walk into each other, one of them teleported on top of the other and then remained there in the air, inactive.

Those are some of the few among many other issues I've had in the game, including the janky climbing system which barely works.

Game design is also very pool in a lot of ways:
Check points are just way too sparse and using them does not even regenerate your health or Flux.
The UI and how the inventory, equiping etc works is just awful for a game like this. If I click on the right hand item that I want to replace, the game should know to just replace the item in that slot, not ask me if I wanna put it somewhere else.
Stats and how they work are not explained at all in any way, shape or form.
Combo system with no way to indicate when you need to input the next attack and with wildly different timings between weapons is just a mess and doesn't mesh very well with a game like this, it's a bit awful when Phantasy Star Online in 2001 did it better than this.
The staff spell orb attack does NOT go where the cross hair is, it will fly off either completely straight or at an angle if you are anywhere close to stairs even if you aren't looking down, sometimes it will decide to orbit around enemies instead of going straight as well, othertimes I've had multiple instances of invisible geometry eat it up.
Enemies don't react at all to any form of ranged attack, making them sitting ducks and boring to fight like that, which is made even more annoying by how awful trying to play melee is in general. I didn't expect god tier AI, but a simple dodge once in a while would make them much better. The first boss was made into a joke thanks to this.

Unfortunately, I was pulled in by the excellent tribute to BLAME! this game's art direction is, only to get what is essentially a glorified alpha test.. an early alpha at that. Horrible, do NOT buy at its current state. Come back in a year or two when it's maybe playable.

It's a typical souls experience and if you played the previous game then you will probably want to play this as well, the gameplay is great, the areas well made and the lore is rich, just as you'd expect. Feels a LITTLE bit repeatitive on the story side and most bosses arent as fresh or unique as one might expect, or at least I expected, but it's a great game, worthy of the Souls name.

The DLC is stellar for sure.
