I did within the source engine, you need to decompile the static model, modify the skeleton (static model has only one node, prop_vehicle_jeep must have a node for the body and children nodes for every moving part), add animations for every moving part and recompile the model as a prop_vehicle_jeep.

On the various mod forum you should be able to find a model decompiler ( I used MDLdecompiler from cannonfodder, but maybe there are newer tools around). To modify add animations etc. you can use Blender with source engine plugins (also 3ds Max should work). For compiling the model you can use the tools already included in Valve's source engine sdk

Yep, the original garry's mod on wheels had trailers and a rudimentary system to attach them to the trucks, latest Surce engine version broke that system, but I left the trailers there (they can be attached with a ball joint or a rope)

would like to and also to improve the released one (in particular the interiors, I just made them quickly to release the mod on the workshop, and always wanted to improve them with better geometries and textures), but probably won't, but I will continue with bug-fix if there are issues with new versions of gmod.
Mostly because I've started a new job and in my spare time I'm rarely at home, but I really appreciate your support over this years and I'm genuinely happy you are still using them after all this years

Yep, that's one of my favorite games as well, despite its age (at least i can play it on my definitely not gaming notebook with no issues).
Fun fact, back in the day I originally made my vehicles as replacements for the HL2 buggy and episode 2 jalopy, now I can't wait for your mod

I made them as ragdoll model so that they can have free moving parts (wheels, hinges) without the need to model animations, the downside is that is quite complicate to model a way for the hinge to work, I don't know if you have HL2, but in the HL2 files there is a small cart (in game I think is in the second or third map with the airboat), I've used that as a template
