What initially attracted me to Summer of '58 were the graphics and the night vision camcorder gameplay. I love horror games with immersive worlds and I'm a big fan of using night vision from the perspective of a camera, and this game left a good impression on me!

I found the environment superb and incredibly detailed. The graphics are amazing! I really enjoyed the sound design. In combination with the environment, sound effects helped immerse me into this world as they both make up an intense atmosphere for the game. When areas are unlit, it is pitch black and you rely on your night vision from your camcorder to see in the dark. The game forces you to look at some events unfold even if you for example walk backwards in hopes the sound effect plays to validate that the scary scene already happened and you are therefore safe. You're not!

I enjoyed the story and how it was told. Some information included in the game on the topic of orphans after the war interested me and so I did some light research and one of the results of WW2 was a large population of war orphans in the Soviet Union, and so this game has some real world history incorporated into the story and I think that's always neat as it serves the potential to teach something as it taught me on my playthrough.

Summer of '58 has a lot of jump scares and plenty of atmospheric horror and so I would say a nearly even combination of both, with more atmospheric horror. While the game starts off as creepy, it gets incredibly scary the more you progress.
I eagerly await another chapter of this world!

P.S. Loved the level selection room!
